Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at the Erickson 12 volt DC ATV series winch with the wire rope and the roller fairlead. Has a 5,000 pound rated line pull. Now this is a power sports ATV recovery winch. It is designed for recreation and standard duty work applications.
This winch is perfect for 500 to 850 cc ATVs and UTVS. And it's recommended for vehicles with a maximum gross vehicle weight rating of 2,500 pounds. Right over here is the 1.3 horsepower permanent magnet motor, delivers powerful, fast and safe line pulling. This motor is lighter and uses less current than a series wound motor. And it is sealed to keep out water and prevent internal corrosion.
Right up here we have the sealed contactor. This will transmit the power from the vehicle's battery to the winch motor. It is designed to mount on or near the ATV/UTV battery box with the included hardware. This winch uses a mechanical brake that'll hold a hundred percent of the load while minimizing winch creep. Does use an all steel three stage planetary gear train, which provides increased drum speed when compared to your one or two stage models.
The gear ratio on this is 166:1. Now they do also include this wired remote rocker switch right here. This will let you control the winch from a nice, safe position. And the clutch on this, it is a cam-free spooling clutch, which will ensure fast rope payout, reduces wear on the motor. You can see this red knob on the end.
If you turn this, that'll engage it. If you turn it the other way, it'll free spool it. The wire rope they use, it's a 1/4 inch diameter zinc-plated wire rope that is strong and abrasion resistant. It is 50 foot in length. Has aircraft grade galvanized steel cable. The clevis hook that's attached is a 1/4 inch steel clevis hook, and you notice, has a nice nylon hand saver strap included. And on the hook is a nice latch to keep you attached. The roller fairlead is a heavy-duty steel roller fairlead. It has a clear anodized finish, resists corrosion. The mounting plate, which we've installed the winch on and roller fairlead, is included. Comes with the hardware you need for installation of the winch in the fairlead. And it all has a nice durable black powder coat steel body and motor to resist corrosion. The tie bars and the extra fixed side frames help to create a strong and rigid winch body. Now the rated line pull on this with a single layer of wire rope on the drum is 5,000 pounds static load. The motor, we have mentioned, it's a 12-volt DC motor. The line pull at zero pounds. Power draw is 29 amps. Line speed of 24.1 feet per minute. The line pull at the full 5,000 pounds, power draw is gonna be 278 amps with a line speed of 5.9 feet per minute. The winch weight on this is only, with the rope installed, it's only about 33 pounds. And the last thing is the dimensions. The length the of this is 14 1/2 inches long. The width, including the fairlead, is about eight inches wide. And the overall height from the bottom to the very top is 5 1/4 inches tall. You notice it does come with a nice set of instructions, how this all goes together. Over here, it comes with the wiring, the hardware, the boots for the wiring, and we mentioned the remote control switch. But that's gonna do it for the review on this Erickson 12-volt DC A TV series winch with the wire rope and the roller fairlead.
