Specs:
Note: This adapter is designed to flat tow a vehicle only. Do not use to tow a trailer. When using with a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, the tongue weight of your hitch will be reduced by at least 50 percent.
Most tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower the tow bar to an appropriate level. The "Safe Zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3" above level to 3" below. Car-mounted models must be absolutely level. This high-low adapter can provide you with the necessary drop or desired rise to achieve a level tow bar setup.

Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for tow bars, part number: RM-048-2. Now, our high-low adapter's not only for tow bars, and it's not only to be used in the lowered position. We can actually flip it around, put it in the rise position, and we can actually mount any kind of accessory -- such as a bike rack or cargo carrier -- and then now we have more adequate ground clearance. Now as you can see, this is gonna give us adequate clearance for our bike rack, and we're not gonna have to worry about bottoming out. There is one thing I would like to mention, when you are using the high-low adapter in conjunction with a bike rack or a cargo carrier, you need to keep in mind, the tongue weight is gonna be reduced by at least 50%. Our high-low adapter does feature a solid shank, so it's gonna be extra strong and durable. Our high-low adapter is designed to work with 2" hitches only, and the pin and clip is not included, but you can pick one up on our website using part number: PC3.
The overall length of our adapter is gonna be 14-5/8". From the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the other hitch pin hole, it's gonna be right about 10-1/8". Our high-low adapter is gonna feature a 400lb tongue weight and a 10,000lb gross trailer weight. Now I want to mention, you always want to double check not only your motor home and the hitch that it's attached to, but also how much you're gonna be carrying. If you ever went to flat-tow your car with your RV, you had a tow bar involved. Every tow bar's a little different, but the manufacturer does recommend that you try to get it level as possible between where it connects to your vehicle and where it connects to the RV.
Now, in our application, the center of our hitch pin hole is right about 21", and the center of our base plate attachment point is right about 18". Now that's the maximum allowed clearance that we're allowed in difference between our tow bar and our base plate connection, but that's where our adapter comes into play. Since our motor home is 3" higher than our connection point on our tow bar, we're gonna put it in the lower position, that way it's almost level. Now we can slide it in, line up the pin hole in the receiver, and then we can put in our 5/8 pin and clip. Now we can safely attach our tow bar and not have to worry about anything binding up because of the extreme angles. Now that we have our adapter installed, let's go and check our measurements again.
Now the center of the hitch pin hole under my adapter is just over 18", my tow bar is right at 18", so it's almost perfectly level. Now we can put in our tow bar into the high-low adapter so it'll be the right angle to tow our vehicle. Now we can put in our pin and clip. And we're ready to hit the road. And that'll finish up our look at the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for tow bars, part number: RM-048-2.
Perfect fit. Thank you.
