Most tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower the tow bar to an appropriate level. The "Safe Zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3" above level to 3" below. Car-mounted models must be absolutely level. This high-low adapter can provide you with the necessary drop or desired rise to achieve a level tow bar setup.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for tow bars with a 4" rise or drop. That's going to be Part Number RM-048-4.Whenever we're towing anything we want to make sure that it's going to be nice and level, so we'll show you how to measure to make sure that your flat tow setup is going to be level. First we'll start off by coming to our connection point on our baseplate that's going to hook up to our tow bar. We'll measure from the ground right to about the middle of where the pin would go through. It's right about 15-3/4".Now we can move over to our motorhome and we're going to measure from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening. Now that's about 19-1/4", so it's about a difference of about 3-1/2".

That's just over the maximum amount allowed with our tow bar. That's where the high-low adapter is going to come into play. It's going to go directly into the receiver tube on our motorhome and we'll line up the hitch pin hole and we can put in our hitch pin and clip. Now these aren't included in the kit, but you can pick them up here at etrailer.com. These are Part Number PC3.This is going to provide us either a 4" drop or rise to accommodate the different height differences between our setup.

A high-low adapter is going to make sure that our tow bar is going to sit nice and level now, making sure that we're not putting any unnecessary stress on the tow bar, the base plate or on our motorhome's hitch. That way we can get down the road safely and make sure everything is nice and secure. Our high-low adapter is going to have a solid steel shank, so it's going to be extra strong and have that rigidness that we need. Our high-low adapter is rated at 10,000 pounds of maximum towing capacity and it has a 400 pound maximum tongue weightThe distance from the center of the hitch pin hole that's going to go in our receiver tube to the center of the hitch pin hole over here is going to be roughly about 10" and from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our high-low adapter is going to be about 12-1/2". All those measurements are going to come in handy when we're looking at safety cables, because it is going to extend it out past the hitch itself, so you may need longer safety cables to make everything work. It's going to provide us a 2" receiver tube opening so we can slide our tow bar right in, line up our hitch pin hole and secure it down. Now we can just finish hooking everything up, like our electrical and our safety cables, and we're ready to go.That'll finish up your look at the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for tow bars with a 4" rise and drop, Part Number RM-048-4..

I have been setting up my 2017 Fiat for towing with my mhome. All parts were on time and worked perfectly. Greg & Reesa was very helpful and knew exactly what I would need to get the job done. Etrailer has my business from now on . The patriot 2 brake system works excellent and that was my biggest concern. Glad I called on etrailer and will again in the future, they have it going on! 496812

that hole in the solid bar is too far to the back by 4-6". i'm going to a metal fabricator tomorrow to see if he can drill it where it should be. as is, the receiver opening will be extended way to far out from the truck hitch. 480200

Tommy,Thank you for your review. We do have high low adapters that measure shorter center of hitch pin hole to center of hitch pin hole. The high low adapter you purchased part RM-048-4 measures 9-5/8. I am assuming you need a 4 inch rise to be level. Part # BX88129
Blue Ox High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars - 2" Hitches - 4" Rise/Drop - 6-1/2" Long
$76.47
by Blue Ox is 6-1/2 pin hole to pin hole. This part allows for up to 500 lbs in tongue weight. I have looked at the other options and this is the shortest measurement on a high low adapter with the rise and capacity you need. We do not recommend drilling a hole in the part because it can negatively affect the structural integrity of the part, causing safety issues in the future. I have attached a link for the blue ox part below.

The hitch adapter was exactly as described and is going to work perfectly. Ordering on the website was easy and shipping was as promised. I didn't really consider the extension aspect, but that will also work well for me. • Pin Hole to Pin Hole Dimension on RoadMaster High/Low Receiver
The pin hole to pin hole distance of the # RM-048-4 is 9-5/8". The Blue Ox # BX88241 has a pin hole to pin hole length of 12 inches, but it also has a rise/drop of 7 inches. This will be crucial to picking out the right adapter for your RV, see attached Help Article. Two adapters that are similar to the Roadmaster one you were looking at are the Blue Ox # BX88235, with the length from center of pin hole to center of pin hole is 10-1/8" and the Roadmaster # RM-076 has a pin hole to...

  • Availability of 10k 4 inch Rise/Drop High Low Adapter for 2017 Thor Hurricane 31s
Sounds like you are looking for the part # RM-048-4. This is a Roadmaster High Low adapter with a 10k capacity that has 4 inch rise/drop. The fit of this is RV specific so that's why it's not listed as a fit for your 2017 Thor Hurricane. It will fit and work well though.

  • How to Choose the Correct High-Low Adapter for Flat Towing
It sounds to me like you are referring to a high-low adapter. A high-low adapter will attach to the RV's trailer hitch receiver and lower/raise the height at which the tow bar connects to the RV. Generally speaking, in order to find the correct high-low adapter you will first need to measure from the ground up to the center of the trailer hitch receiver opening and then from the ground up to the center of the base plate kit. The difference between these measurements will give you the correct...

  • High Low Hitch Adapter Recommendation for 2018 Toyota Sienna
We have the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-048-4 that should work for your application but you'll want to measure first. If you measure from the center of your hitch pin hole out to the furthest point out on the rear bumper and it's less than 9-5/8 inches The # RM-048-4 will fit and clear the bumper. Just looking at your picture I can't see how this wouldn't work but it never hurts to measure to be sure.

  • Can a Tow Bar be 3-1/2 Inches Out of Level when Flat Towing a 2012 Jeep Liberty
The problem is that the tow bar can only flex so much and if it is 1/2 inch out of the safe zone now then it will be out much more when on uneven terrain. You will want it to be as level as possible. To get a more level set up you can use a high/low adapter to compensate for the 3-1/2 inches of difference between the base plates and the hitch. We have a 4 inch option, # RM-048-4, that will get you closest to level. Or if you want to be in the safe zone you could use a 2 inch drop model...

  • Adapter Recommendation to Give Bike Rack More Rise
I have a solution for you, but the Roadmaster High Low Adapter part # RM-048-4 that you referenced is only designed for use in flat-towing situations so I cannot recommend it for you. I attached a review video for you to check out.

  • Compatibility of High-Low Adapter with Hitch Mounted Motorcycle Carrier
The Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars # RM-048-4 will allow you to use your carrier and give you the 4 inch drop. However, you will also reduce the tongue weight of your trailer hitch by 50%. So your hitch itself will need a tongue weight rating of 720 lbs or higher for this combination to work for you. The issue with using an adapter is that reduction in tongue weight capacity because of the extra torque that is added to the hitch receiver. Due to the weight of a motorcycle,...

  • High-Low Adapter to Tow a Mini Cooper Behind a Motor Home
Most tow bars have a certain range in which they can work. That range is usually 3 inches off from level. A 6 inch drop would get you as close to level as you are going to get which is great. There is a chance that because the base plate connections on the Mini are so low that you could end up making contact with the ground and the adapter on uneven terrain or steep grades but for the most part in everyday towing situations it would not be a problem.
