I would love to give this a high review BUT-the silver "Reese" cover was destroyed in shipment-not Reeses fault, but the following is 1) the mounting plate for the 7-pin connector was welded on poorly, the weld itself was strong but so poorly done that the mounting plate on the 7 pin extension cord mounting bracket would not mount flush nor would the bolt holes line up-I had to leave one of the 4 bolts out. 2) the cover ring at the reiver end, where you install your ball hitch was also so poorly welded, off center in all 4 directions. So bad that it would not take some ball hitches and others had to be "forced fit" to get them in because the welded cover plate actually closed off the receiver end by about a 1/16 of an inch, doesn't seem like much but on a receiver that has to fit snuggly it's a mile. 3) the distance from the pin hole at trucks end to end of extension was too long-it hit spare tire and I had to cut off 1 1/4 inches to get the extension to fit and not hit the spare tire. Other than those 3 things it had potential.

Not sure what other people are talking about but the holes all lined up perfectly and the 48” tube steel fit perfectly with very little movement. That can be remedied with a simple hitch clamp but I don’t think I need it. Very solid with some weight to it. Adding the wire extension the holes also in perfect alignment. I chose to order direct from the website, I feel I will get the best product and customer service. Expensive but much needed to haul my trailer with truck camper. Always great stuff from etrailer.

by:

I am very happy with this item. I use it on my truck
When I travel with my truck camper and want to tow my boat
It fits the factory receiver on my F 350 and works fine for my boat or just to add my bike rack behind the camper. It is a heavy duty unit and I would recommend it for similar uses.

by:

Very robust. I cut it to the length I needed and fit perfect. Received product within 3 days of ordering. I have felt with e trailer before and always with outstanding results. Thanks e trailer

After 1 year the Reese hitch adapter is working flawlessly. 100 satisfied.

by:

The holes for hitch pin did not line up with holes on the receiver of my truck. I had to drill out the extension to make it work.

Comments
To achieve the 41 inch extension you will need to cut this 6 inches behind the pin hole when trimming.
-- Etrailer Expert Sierra K - 06/27/2022

by:

It looks solid and well built. Only 4 stars because chrome end was broken. Poor packaging. Should be wrapped with padding on that end

Comments
Oh no! That is definitely not how we want the extender to arrive. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you to have it replaced.

I purchased the hitch extension to accomendate our bike rack to go on the back of our truckcamper. I also purchased the bike rack and steps at all work perfectly together. The extension is very heavy duty and can be used for towing a boat. The only con was not the extension it was the packageing it beat itself up. I also added turnbuckles and safety chain and electrical extension.

by:

I've bought Reese products in the past with no problems but this time one of the pin holes wasn't drilled completely through. It kinda makes one worry about quality control. These hitch extenders carry a lot of weight and if the quality doesn't match the demand it can be very dangerous. This is not a cheap product so I expected higher quality.
Also, the hitch hole cover was broken, not a big deal but the hitch was just thrown into a box with no packaging material and sent on its merry way. When the box arrived it was obvious the box had see some tough times in it's journey to it's new home. I know this is a heavy unit but it looked like everybody along the way hated it!
I've ordered a number of items from etrailer and they have been quick, responsive to questions and priced well, so this isn't a bad mark on their efforts.

by:

The extension is heavy duty with a smaller square tube inside the outside one. The bracket to attach the 7 pin electrical connector was bent and I had to cut 1 1/2" off the end to make it work because it hit the spare tire of my 2017 RAM 2500.

by:

Product was shipped promptly and in excellent condition. All of the information regarding this product was very helpful, especially the video. I was worried that I needed a heavy duty hitch system but after watching the informational video, I was sure this would work for my set up for towing.

by:

I ordered this from etrailer and it was fast and simple. I got it within days. I think this will work well with my pickup camper and trailer combo. The only problem I had was that there was too much paint on it. So much so that it would not fit into my receiver. I am sure they are mass produced, but they should have someone put a micrometer on them once in awhile. I have a 2018 Ram 3500 with a 2 1/2 inch receiver. I tried a friends exact same extension and it slid in easily. Oh, well. I made it work anyways.

by:

heavy duty, works well pulling a small enclosed trailer behind my slide in camper. like others, I did have to grind a little to get it to fit but not a big deal....

by:

I needed this to connect a cargo basket and or an ATV trailer to the truck with with a truck camper in the bed. The truck campers bumper extends 48 inches out from my truck. This was ideal. Its sturdy and does not bend or sway. Perfect for my application.

by:

excellent customer service great park

by:

Extension is very heavily built. Had a little trouble getting it in the hitch on my 2019 F-350. Hoping it was due to new paint and the cold weather making the hitch slightly smaller.

by:

Works great but added turn buckles on each side to stiff it up more

by:

Just what we needed and all info on it was accurate. Great service and a great price.

48" Titan hitch box extension on 2011 F-350 Dually

by:

It works well

by:

This is very heavy duty. When I installed it on my Ford F350 the end of the extension bar hit the spare tire when it went thru the receiver and the pin hole was about a 1/4 hole off. I had to trim the end about 1" to make it so it would clear the spare tire.

Hitch extension was a bit loose in the receiver which is typical and expected. I bought a hitch clamp to take care of the play and everything works fine.

Comments
After a year the hitch extension is still working great. As I said before I added a hitch clamp as the extension was loose in receiver - without this the trailer would be bouncing up and down a lot. It is a solid piece of metal and weighs quite a bit. I am only pulling a drift boat so this hitch extension works great because the trailerboat weight is less than 800 lbs. There is a limit to tongue weight for this extension so be aware of this and know what your actual trailer weights are. Overall I am very happy.

by:

Shipping was amazingly fast, and the extension seems to be of an excellent build quality! The little decorative chromed plastic ring was smashed in transit, but I don't see that as much loss since in Minnesota it would just catch dirt and salt promoting corrosion anyway. I am very happy with this extension and am thrilled with the customer service I received to help with making this happen. Thanks much!

by:

Came quickly and did the trick.

by:

It does everything I want it to do.

by:

I give this 5 stars for its robust design and functionality. It was not an easy install though. The 5/8" pin hole on my hitch did not line up very well with the pin hole on this hitch extension. In all fairness, it could have been my hitch, although other extenders I tried did line up...We use this to tow a 4000 lb jeep behind a truck camper with a 2016 Ram 3500 dually.

Comments
This hitch extension is still working great. We have used it to tow our jeep over 25,000 miles with no problems.
Rob - 11/11/2019

by:

The product arrived within 4 days of ordering and in excellent condition. It fits into the hitch I recently ordered with no adjustments necessary.

A horizontal band saw with a blade that can cut steel would be your best option. But even a cutting wheel with a thin disc would work pretty well too. If you have access to a sawz-all that would be an option. But I would go with the first two options if you can before this.

Think of the end of the Titan hitch extender, # RP45018, as a long trailer hitch receiver. You will put the weight distribution shank in the end of the extension just like you normally would and perform the set up the same on the trailer end. • Trouble Getting Titan Hitch Box Extension # RP45018 to Fit in Factory Installed Class V Hitch
Actually, yes, you will most likely have to remove a bit of the powder coating on the Titan Hitch Box Extension, # RP45018. We have found that since Ford factory hitches have corners that are rounded a bit different than others, this creates a very tight fit with some of the hitch accessories that are available. I suggest that you do just a little bit of sanding and the extension should fit just fine.

  • How Long Can The Titan Hitch Box Extender Part # RP45018 Be On My Truck
The hitch box extender # RP45018 you referenced will extend your receiver opening to a maximum length of 48-inches away from your truck. But is also offers the option of being shortened to 41-inches. If you have the hitch box extender at 41-inches the weight carrying capacity is 5,000 pounds, whereas 48-inches the weight carrying capacity is 4,000 pounds. • Does the Titan Hitch Box Extension Bend Upward at the End
The Titan hitch extender # RP45018 does have a slight bend in it closer to the receiver end. This is to help compensate for any sag caused by the length and weight of the extender so there basically won't be a difference in height between the hitch receiver and the receiver on the extender.

The distance from the hitch pin hole where the extension would attach to the receiver on your truck to the front face of the receiver on the extension is 50 inches. I have edited a photo showing what the 48 inch measurement represents.

The Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2 inch Trailer Hitches, item # RP45018, has two different ratings because if towed with a weight distribution system (see link) you will be able to tow higher capacities. The weight distribution system distributes the weight from the hitch to the vehicle and trailers axles to allow for improved towing performance. I attached an FAQ...

Cutting the back of the Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2 inch Trailer Hitches, item # RP45018, off is not a concern as long as you leave at least 6 inches behind the center of the hitch pin hole, and you do not excessively heat the extension when cutting it off.
