With a 2,500 lbs maximum gross trailer weight and 250 lbs tongue weight rating, this Class III, 2" receiver is built for light to moderate towing. It’s strong enough to handle small campers, boats, or utility trailers and steady enough for bike racks or cargo carriers. The concealed cross tube keeps things looking clean while giving you the power to haul what you need.
You don’t need a shop lift or welding tools to get this hitch on. The fully welded design bolts right onto the frame using the included hardware kit. Precision, robotic welding ensures everything lines up exactly where it should, so you’re not fighting misaligned holes or missing pieces. A protective gloss black powder coat finish over a base coat helps guard against rust while you work and after it’s installed.
The steel construction is sturdy and powder coated for superior corrosion resistance. That means road salt, rain, and grime won’t eat away at your hitch. The gloss black finish also gives it a clean look that blends right in under the bumper but still looks solid and tough when you catch sight of it.
Once installed, the 2" x 2" receiver opening is ready for your towing or cargo gear. Ball mount, pin, and clip are sold separately, so you can choose the ones that match your setup. And when carrying bike racks or other non-trailer loads, pair it with Curt’s stabilizer strap part #18050 to reduce stress on the hitch and keep your setup secure.

Called tech support on instruction question and got very clear answer. Very pleased with hitch. The 13140 hitch for the BMW X1 is in my opinion a difficult install when you try to tighten upper bumper bolts. Suggestion for instructions to add criteria for "use as many spacer washers as needed". Very pleased with product, delivery and support.
Works great for 1up bike rack! Well built hitch and relatively easy to install. I have not tried towing with it.

Good quality product but most importantly for me, as a newbie to trailer hitches, really great product support and customer service.
I have dealt with etrailer for a hitch and lighting controller for my (now sold) 2006 BMW 330Ci ZHP coupe some years ago and that went fine. Installation went perfectly following their instructions. I just bought a hitch for our 2014 BMW X1 and that also went perfectly. Watching a video where they install on the same vehicle you have is a great confidence booster! It is apparent these guys know their stuff.

I am very satisfied with the Curt custom fit trailer hitch Item number # C13140. I ordered the hitch to be able to use a 1up Bike rack on my 2014 BMW X1. The entire process from ordering, shipping and finally the install was very good. I used the provided instructions and watched one of the insulation videos and I was able to install without issues. Thank you to everyone involved in my order.
Have had this Hitch on my wife's BMW for about a year. Installation was straight forward and took me about an hour. It really helps to have a 2nd person help lift and hold into position during the install.
I really like this hitch because most of the assembly is hidden behind the bumper and only the receiver is seen just below the bumper. We primarily use the hitch for a bike rack so we don't have to strap bikes to the vehicle itself.
This is the third Curt hitch that I've ordered from etrailer and installed on one of my cars. I only use them for my bike rack or a cargo carrier. Just like the other two, everything lined up and was easy to install. The etrailer install videos are a great help, giving you step-by-step instructions on how to do it and how big of a job to expect. I would recommend these hitches to anyone.
Product came on time and was easy to install. The video from etrailer made this SO easy. It took me an hour and 25 minutes, but I had to improvise because I didn't have a short socket. Make sure you have the suggested sizes with a short socket.

The hitch was relatively easy to install, it took about an hour. I didn’t need to drop the exhaust as instructed in the video. My one complaint is that the instructions were incorrect- bolt sizes were not correct and the torque recommendations did not correspond to the nut sizes. Overall it has a good finish, great custom fit and looks good installed.
Easy installation , took a little over an hour. Only difficulty for my X1 was the reinstallation of the rear facia panel and lower body panels were out of shape and needed reinlinement. Videos and installation instructions were great , some X1 models dont have exhaust sensor so there’s no need to take rubber hangers down for clearance.
The install was super straightforward. The videos provided along with the purchase. The product helped tremendously. Even the wiring was made easy by the help in the video. Saved over $350. Thank you!
