Installation of Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13229 on 2007 Dodge Dakota

Question:
My question is about the torque settings. I told a friend and he thought this was a bit extreme and he said there was a chance the bolt may break. Any advice would be helpful.

I spoke with my contact at Curt and when it comes to installing the Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 13229, on your 2007 Dodge Dakota, the torque information given in the instruction is correct and has been tested. This is a 3/4 inch, grade 8 bolt that has been used for years and they have not had any issues of the bolt braking when torqued according to the instructions.
