Note: If your RV has separate brake and turn signal lights, you do not need to install the included tail light converter. However, you will need to replace the 4-way Saturn Vue-side connector with one that is capable of carrying the separate signals.
The diagram below shows the installation of the 6-diode tail light wiring kit on a towed Saturn Vue (or dinghy) that has separate turn signals (typically amber) and red brake lights. This kit will most often be used with a motor home that operates off of a 2-wire system wherein the brake lights do the flashing for the turn signals. The included tail light converter (118158) is used to convert the combined brake and turn signal lights to separate ones to match those of your towed Saturn Vue.

This harness was an excellent choice. It took about an hour and fifteen minutes to install. Everything is spelled out for you in the instructions and if all else fails, watch the online video. The hardest thing was removing the tail light on the Sportage. I has a ball joint connection that forces you to pull harder than you think you should. I was afraid I would break the light. But it popped out and the rest was easy. Very complete and works great! The connections fit like factory. Very Pleased.
This is my second "toad" to set up with tail lights. The first one was a 1997 Nissan Hardbody pickup. I did the kit that adds a new bulb to each tail light housing. That was easier as far as the wiring part, harder due to drilling the holes for a new light bulb. This kit went into a 2014 Honda CR-V. Deciding where to cut into the factory wires and where to place the diodes was difficult for me to decide. Once decided, the job was still a bit tough. I put the diodes behind the interior panels inside the rear of the car. Finding a spot for the diodes is tricky since there is not a lot of room, near the wiring harnesses. To make the job ever more tedious, I wanted everything inside split loom for protection. The video from etrailer was very helpful, although I didn't like the idea of running the wires outside, under the car. Honda ran most wire bundles inside for protection I suppose and that seems better to me. I ran the wires to the front inside the door sill panels, then through the firewall. In the firewall, I sliced a small hole in an existing rubber grommet and shared the space. I also put the "break away" wire back through the same grommet.
I am very happy with the quality, customer service and video training help from etrailer! The only complaint: the brake lights on the toad, flash dimly when the turn signals are on. It's not very bright, but the convertor is supposed to keep that from happening. Besides that, I am very happy with this and all the other items I bought for this project!
In ordering the parts I got a little confused as to exactly which kit I needed. My motorhome has combined brake/turn signal lights & the car ('03 Subaru Outback) has separate brake/turn/parking lights. Thought I needed the 6 diode kit (which I ordered) until I had all the parts here & read through the instructions for the umpteenth time (BEFORE cutting anything) & then realized what they were doing. Turns out all I needed was the 4 diode kit. Sounds like there won't be any problems returning the unneeded parts since they were never installed. Great service there!
Took a lot apart in the back of the car because of the lack of space behind the tail light assemblies, but it all comes apart pretty easily. Also allowed me to route the wiring along side the stock harness. Have a bunch of 1/2" split loom here & used it.
Thought I would have lots of wire left over, but I actually had to splice 2 cut offs to make a jumper long enough to get from 1 side of the car to the other. Glad the car wasn't any longer & I didn't have to make up 2 jumpers as with some of the kits!
Hardest part was finding a hole in the firewall & getting the harness routed under the dash so as to not tangle with the pedals, etc. I just don't flex like I used to.
Everything works fine although it was NOT a "5 minute job".
The diodes and wiring are good and worked well. But the 118158 converter produced a 3.5 volt drop such that the brake lights were as dim as the tail lights. And when a turn signal was triggered the brake lights dimmed even further. I ended up stringing a separate brake wire through the car and re-wiring my truck with a 5-wire connector.
Prompt deliver of product. We haven't gotten this part of our project installed, we are still watching YouTube videos and other info on procedure. Had very little difficulties installing base plate on our 2013 CRV this should go well also. Our lights are a little more complicated but once we figure out how to actually wire to them every thing we've learned so far is very straight forward.

So far, so good. Weve only towed the car one way from KS to Fl. Everything working great. Thinking about adding a receiver hitch but, will take it to the dealer as we sold our farm, and our tools and have the grandsons arent available to do the hard work.
I used this wiring kit on a 2012 Fiat 500 Sport. All of the components worked as advertised and I am really pleased with the result. I used the 6 diode kit so the FIAT's turn signals would work the same when it's being towed as when it is driven.
This was my first light wiring kit installation and it was quite a challenge on the small FIAT to fish the flat cable from the rear of the car to the front. I ran it along the drivers side - over the rear wheel well, along the rocker panel, and up over the front wheel well. The wheel wells were the most difficult part of the job. Running the cable from driver's side to passenger side along the rear bumper and running it from the front wheel well to the front of the car and installing a connector were straightforward.
One problem I ran into is the female disconnect terminals supplied with the kit that are used to connect wires to the diodes anticipated a thicker wire (16-14 AWG) than what the FIAT uses. A quick trip to a close by big box store was all that was needed to find the same connectors for a thinner gauge wire (22-18 AWG). You still use the supplied disconnect terminals with the flat cable connections to the diodes.
I bought this wiring kit because I wanted to wire my 2013 Honda CRV myself. E-Trailer has a video that is helpful in its installation . What I later found out was you need to route the wires through some covers underneath the vehicle and unless you have some means to raise the vehicle pretty high that routing will be difficult. I went to the Honda dealer and several other auto places and no one would install this kit for me because of liability reasons so now I have a product of question. I ended up at a friends garage who had a lift and we routed the wire from side to side and from front to back in about 20 minutes. Once secured in place I took the car home to finish the diode installation. Using the video it was easy to install. The only problem I had was putting the rear tai lights back in. You will need the separate the diodes as the space between the body and light housing is very close. Other than that everything worked out well.
An ingenious system that enables a combined break and turn signal set up on your RV to properly operate the separate turn signal / brake setup of your toad. Beautiful!

Have been using the brake and turn signal system for over a year now, and it is still working flawlessly!!
I used the wiring harness on my Tacoma pickup in preparing to tow it behind our 40’ motorhome. The harness went on easily from the front grill to the rear lights, where I soldered and heat wrapped each connection. The instructions were ample and easy to follow.
It’s been a year since the installation, and the wiring has worked flawlessly!
The kit contained all you need to wire lights on a Fiat. The instructions were clear and concise. Excellent product and service as usual for etrailer.

After one year this kit is still doing its job flawlessly.
The Roadmaster Wiring Harness was installed easily by our mechanic and works perfectly with our Civic and RV. I'm certain we will use etrailer.com for our new dinghy towing requirements!
Install on a 2020 Ford Ranger. The product was excellent. The only problem I had was trying to remove the nuts holding the front bumper on. Ford has these bolts embedded in a hard plastic frame that spaces the three bolts on each side. In trying to remove the nuts I got them started then they would neither come on off nor reinstall. The nuts were spinning the bolts. After thinking about the fix I was in I decided to cut the factory bolts off and replace them with 1/2" x 1 1/2" bolts with fender washers. I tried a sawsall with a metal cutting blade and the bolts ate the teeth right off. I put on a Milwaukee thick metal cutting carbide tooth blade and that did the trick. Other than that, which is Ford's fault, everything went as the etrailer videos showed. If you are doing this make sure to spray the exposed bolt threads with WD-40 or something like before you try to remove the nuts.
I found the product to be of very high guality. I did not supply pictures as I would need to remove my taillights again. I had to covert a motor home that did not have separate turn signals to a Sonic that did. The materials supplied allowed me to just that. I do have two other comments-The instructions showed the wires on the car on the passenger side which is opposite from the Sonic and most others I would think. I had to reverse my thinking to do the correct procedure. Also, could you not supply unit specific instructions if the towing vehicle lighting arrangement and the towed vehicle was identified. This would eliminate the extra parts that I did not need and help the customer complete the task. Other than that, very good product. I guess it is better to have extra parts ratter than not having enough but I just thought this might cut the cost for some applications.
Was skeptical about using with led tail lights,but it all went well. The installation videos are spot on. After one year and about 12k miles traveled, no problems. My vehicle is a 2020 Ford Ranger.
This is my second purchase of wiring kit for towed vehicle I have bought from Etrailer. I had some questions and Etrailer was able to answer every question I had. I will go back to Etrailer next time I need products such as this.

The wiring works great, I got more in the KIT than I could possible use and I am sure I had to pay for the extras, but I got what I needed and am very happy.

Works as advertised. Design of these wiring kits is based on converting the common 3 bulb brake/turn signal systems to a 2 bulb system. This makes them unnecessarily complicated.
I did a lot of research before buying. etrailer's prices and support are above average. I ordered the Roadmaster 913-1 baseplate, Falcon-2 towbar and 154 universal lighting kit. I was completely surprised by the fast shipping, all parts arrived 3 days before I expected AND the shipping was free!
Before I ordered I talked with etrailer support to ensure I ordered the correct parts. They were knowledgeable and helpful.
Nice set up. Instructions were spot on. The hardest part of the installation was removing car interior panels to get to the wiring. Would definitely recommend this product.
A great product. Installed easily. Previous wiring experience would be good for somebody wanting to use this.
It has performed flawlessly over the past year. I’d recommend it.

Hey Bill! Sometimes with 2-3 converters, they can have that slight residual power and cause the brake lights to do that. If your ground wire isn't wired up to the negative terminal of the battery, you may try that if its on the chassis instead. We have seen that help resolve that issue. Lastly, high-five on the install! Flat tow wiring always intimidated me.
