Video Transcript for Reese Quick Install 5th Wheel Base Rail Kit Installation - 2015 Ram 2500

Today on our 2015 RAM 2500, we're going to be taking a look at, and installing, the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and installation kit for fifth wheel trailer hitches, part number RP50054-58. First thing we're going to need to do is remove the cap. Take a pry bar and pop the cap off the center of the back wheels. Make sure to loosen your lugs while it's on the ground. We'll go ahead and pull them off the rest of the way, and pull the tire off the rest of the way. Now that we have this tire off, we'll go ahead and repeat that same process on the driver's side. Now we're going to go ahead and remove the 11 fasteners that secure the inner fender well to the inside of the truck box.

That way, we have better access to where we're going to be mounting the fifth wheel. All right, the best way to remove these is going to be to pull in and kind of peel it back. Once you have it out on the one side, you can twist it around and pull it out of the other. Now that we have our inner fender wells removed, we're going to go ahead and drop the spare tire from the back of the vehicle to give us a little extra room. If you don't have a tool to use, go ahead and use the spare tire kit that's located in your vehicle. Now, next step is we're going to be underneath the vehicle, just to the left of the fuel tank, on the inside of the driver's side frame rail, just forward of the rear coil spring. You're going to see that there's going to be a wiring harness and your brake lines attached to that frame rail.

We're going to need to attach our inner bracket to this frame rail, so we'll need to pull those out so we can slide the bracket in behind. Go ahead and use a trim panel removal tool, or a flat head screwdriver if you have one. Now that you have all those removed off the frame rail, just be very careful with your brake lines, that you don't damage or bend them, and get a kink in them. Now we'll go ahead and remove the heat shield, just to give us a little better access, as well as the rear part of the exhaust. This will give us as much room as we're going to need to move around and tighten everything down. There's going to be 2 fasteners, located here, for the heat shield, and 2 back behind that are hard to see, on the back of this cross bar.

Now, just go ahead and remove it from the stud that's holding it in place, which is going to be that inaudible 00:02:42 closest to the inside. All right, now we're going to do 2 more things to remove the rear exhaust. We're going to spray it with some spray lubricant around the rubber isolator here, just to help it slide off a little easier. Go ahead and use your pry bar, and once you get it moving around a little bit and get a little bit of that lubricant in there, it should be a little bit easier. Then, we'll go ahead and pull it all the way off. All right, now we're going to put a safety strap on here, just to hold it while we loosen up that clamp, so it just doesn't drop down under its own weight.

Then, we'll pull off the strap and remove this rear section of exhaust. Now, with us up here in the bed of our truck, we're going to get our measurements to set our back cross rail in place. We're going to come to the center of the bed, take our tape measure from the edge here, and measure up . This is going to be our short bed, so this is going to be 26-1/4 inches. If you have a long bed, it's going to be 28-3/16 inches from this back edge here. Keep in mind that if you do have a spray in bed liner, that measurement is going to change depending on the thickness of that liner, as well. We'll just take a paint pen or a Sharpie and make a little mark. Now, we'll bring our rear cross bar in place, and we'll center our rear cross bar. The center of it, that rear measurement is going to come to the very edge of your rear cross bar. So, 26-1/4 inches to the edge, from the edge there, or 28-3/16 if you have a long box. Now we'll just get it centered in between our wheel wells and the weld seams here on the side. We'll just get our measurement from there, and make sure that we're completely centered on the inside of the vehicle. It is imperative that you get these measurements, and you double and triple check them to make sure that they're right. All right, that looks good there. Now we'll just check the other side and make sure we got it square and it's not kinked. That looks good there, so we'll go ahead and take our paint pen, and we'll mark out our holes. For the back one, we're going to mark the farthest most hole. You see that there's 1, 2, 3, 4 holes. It's going to be that fourth hole on the inside. This is just going to be on that back rail. That front rail's going to be a little bit different. The center hole, and we'll get this side over here. Now, we'll go ahead and punch out the center of our hole for our inner point, here on that back bracket. Now, we'll go ahead and drill out, using an 1/8 inch drill bit. Now, we'll go ahead and drill out our final hole size. Remember to go down nice and easy, that way we avoid damaging anything underneath the truck bed. Right, we'll move on, and drill out the other 4. Now, we'll go ahead and locate our rear well nuts, where we're going to put up our rear plate, like so. Those are going to be factory well nuts. We'll go ahead and spray them with a little spray lubricant, and clean them out with a nylon tube brush, part number 814092. All right, once we have it cleaned out, we'll go ahead and set that nylon tube brush off to the side and place our plate up. Now, you're plate's going to go up with the flat part and hole here, directly underneath of our hole that we drilled in the bed of the truck, just like so. Line up those 2 holes, and then we'll place a M12 hex bolt and a conical tooth washer against the bracket. Go ahead and thread it into the existing well nut, making sure that the teeth for the conical tooth washer are facing towards the bracket. We're going to loosely install these. You can see, we'll still be able to move that around as much as we may need to. Now, we'll go ahead and repeat that same process on the driver's side. Now, we'll go ahead and place our rear bracket back in place, and then we'll take our carriage bolts, which are going to be your 1-1/2 inch carriage bolts, and your spacer blocks, and place them underneath. Now, you want your spacer blocks in the spot where the corrugation is going to be down and lower. That way, it doesn't bend your truck bed, or pull it and torque it in any certain fashion that it shouldn't. Underneath, we'll adjust that bracket so we can drop through the bolt, and we'll repeat that same process on the other side of the vehicle. Now, we'll go ahead and take our cylindrical spacer and put it into the channel, located here. We'll go ahead and use a flat head screwdriver, and a helper inside the bed to help us place it up into the bed. Now we'll go ahead and straighten it out, and to straighten it out, we're going to press it in to where he can hook onto it, with a flat head screwdriver, and tilt it while we use a blunt object to hammer it in. Once it's upright, it'll be in place. Now, we're going to take our conical tooth washer and our hex nut, and place it over the bottom side of our rear mounting bracket. Always make sure that the teeth on the conical tooth washer are facing up, towards the bracket. Make sure you can thread on your nuts, hand tight, and that they aren't cross threaded. Move to the next one, here. Now, we'll repeat that on the passenger side. Remember to leave them loose, so that way we can adjust, and do a final measurement up top, just to make sure everything's centered and square. Now that we have our outer bolts loosely fastened, we'll go ahead and place in our last of the hardware here, on top. We're going to slide it under, so we can slide our bolt in. We'll place our bolt through the hole, to where it comes out the bottom side. We'll go ahead and take our conical tooth washer and our nut, and place it over the top. Once we have our nut in place, we'll go ahead and tighten that one down, and tighten down the rest. All right. Now what we've done is, we went ahead and loosely installed our fifth wheel, and put it up in place. You don't need the head on, mainly just the saddles. That way, you can space out your front crossbar, and where it needs to be mounted at, and the brackets need to go. What we'll do is, we'll go ahead and take our front bar, and go ahead and set it underneath the front mounts of our saddle. Go ahead and rotate it up, and slide it back. Right there is where it'll need to be. You can see, we'll have a little bit of adjustment with it, so we'll just go ahead and make sure it's square with the first one that we put on, and get all those measurements, but now we know exactly where it needs to be, towards the front of the vehicle. All right, now that we've got our fifth wheel loosely mounted in place, you're not going to need the top plate, but you do need the saddles. If you plan on using multiple different fifth wheel components, you want to use those at the same time, put them next to them or whatever, to find out the best spot to placing your rails. Now, once you have your rails put in place, we're going to be taking . For the 10 bolt pattern, and placing these bolts in, we're going to be going to the third hole in from the outside. Just count the third hole in, and then we'll go ahead and mark it with our paint pen. That's going to be the third hole in, on both sides. All right, now that we got that marked, we'll go ahead and mark the front hole, closest to the cab. Now, with those marked, we'll go ahead and move our fifth wheel out of the way. Now we'll go ahead and move our plate out of the way, and drill our first 2 holes over here, and then our 2 over here, and finishing with the one in the middle. We'll take our center punch and punch out the center of our holes. Once you have the center of your holes punched, we'll go ahead and drill them out. Then we're going to go ahead and do as we did on the back side for this front mounting bracket. We're going to temporarily put it up in place, real loose. It's going to go in this hole located here, and the one located here. We're going to go ahead and clean out those preexisting well nuts and the frame, and line up our bracket with our pre-drilled holes. Once your holes are cleaned out, take your conical tooth washer and bolt, placing the bracket up into place, and we'll just get those bolts started. That way, when we put our bigger holes through, then we can line everything up. We'll go ahead and repeat that same process on the driver's side, and get it in place. Now, we'll go ahead and drill our holes to the final hole size. Repeat that for the other 4 holes. Now with all 5 of our holes drilled on the front, one in the center and two here on top of this ridge cap and corrugation, we'll go ahead and place our bracket back over the holes. Once it's over the holes, we'll be able to drop through our bolts. Just as we did on the back one, we're going to go ahead and take our spacer block and put it underneath. It's going to go underneath the center, where there isn't going to be any corrugation underneath of it. Place our carriage bolt through the center, and then we'll place our other 2 carriage bolts on each side. Again, we'll need to adjust those brackets from the bottom side until our bolts drop down in. Remember, we kept them loose for a reason. All right, next thing we're going to do once we have our brackets up in position, is we're going to go ahead and place over our blocks in our corrugation where our brackets are sitting. That way, when it tightens up around our bed, it doesn't make it collapse. We'll take our block, and we're going to stick it the channel to slide into that corrugation. All right, once we have it right next to it, we'll take a pry bar and pop it into the side, where we can't get to from the outside. Now we'll go ahead and take the half moon of our other block and place it up in the corrugation, above our other bracket, around our bolt. Now, we'll go ahead and take our conical tooth washer and our nut, and place it on the end of our middle bolt. By pressing the washer, you're going to hold it in place, making it easier to thread on your nut. Now we'll go ahead and take our other conical tooth washers and place them on the passenger side bracket. Now, let's go ahead and tighten down all of our hardware that we have remaining. Now, we'll go ahead and torque all of our bolts to manufacturer specifications, starting with the driver's side front. That will do it for our review and installation of the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rail and installation kit for fifth wheel trailers, part number RP50054-58, on our 2015 RAM 2500.

Fantastic I installed it with a friend which was needed. I measured three times and drilled once. It turned out perfectly because when I was done I []ped in my hitch and it fell in without any forcing involved. Just a note I purchased the Reese hitch from a friend and didnt have it with me at the time of my installation of the rails. So it was a huge relief to see it fit perfectly. The quality of the product also played a big part of the install.

The product arrived quickly and was of high quality. I had watched the video and pre-read the instructions. The video spent quite a bit of time discussing the heat shield being in the way....sure. But, made no mention of the bracket going in next to the gas tank! That 4th bracket kicked my butt :o It is all in and fit great! Thanks!!! 795620

The brackets are made well and feel very high quality. Install was pretty easy and straight forward but I think the instructions are not totally accurate for my truck. On my 2020 Ram 2500 gas truck one of the bolts I had to drill ended up right on top on an exhaust hanger mount. I triple checked the measurements too. I got it to work but could not get it as tight as I wanted and definitely can’t get a torque wrench on it. Only an open end wrench would fit. Overall though I do recommend this mounting system for the bed rails. 790525

Install wasn't too bad. Only gave it 3 stars because the slots for the 5th wheel or gooseneck hitch are a little sloppy. sure it makes it easier to install or remove the hitch, but the little jerks of the hitch moving when taking off from a stop or slowing down too fast are annoying. Guess I shouldn't have gotten the spacing perfect and I wouldn't have the issue. 474202

  • Rail Placement for 5th Wheel Install Kit RP50054-58 for a 2015 Ram 2500
I can help you out with this installation. For 5th wheel install kit # RP50054-58 measure from the rear edge of the truck bed forward 28-3/16 inches for a long bed or 26-1/4 inches for a short bed. This is where the back edge of the rear rail will be. Once the rear rail is in place the front rail will be 22 inches forward of the rear rail. This is measured from the center of the rear rail to the center of the front rail. But I would leave things a little loose until you have the hitch...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Reese Installation Kit for 2015 Ram 2500
The Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit # RP50054-58 is similar to the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Outboard Install Kit # RP56009-53. Both base rails will work with fifth wheel hitches that use the standard above-bed base rails. The biggest difference between these rails is that the # RP56009-53 will be much easier to install than the other kit because of the way the outboard install brackets face and the length of the base rails. You will not have...

I have a solution for you, but the problem with the Ram Box is that is that it puts the rails of the bed too close together and it causes interference with the pin box of the trailer around corners. We have heard several customers say that with a Sidewinder pin box they were able to tow a fifth wheel trailer with a truck with a Ram Box. Sidewinders move the pivot point higher so the Ram Box wouldn't interfere. The only problem is that Sidewinder hasn't officially said that you can...

We have just what you would need. For a fifth wheel base rail kit that will fit your 2016 Ram 2500 with a short bed you would want the # RP50054-58. This is a custom fit rail kit for your truck that will minimize drilling and install time over a universal kit and is also compatible with the Husky hitch you have since it is made to the industry standard fifth wheel rail specs. I attached an install video that shows this kit being installed in a 2016 Ram 2500 for you to check out as well.

  • How To Reuse Reese Above Bed 5th Wheel Base Rails On a 2019 Ram 2500
Yes, the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # RP50054-58 which is a fit for a 2019 Ram 2500 is available without the above bed base rails, the Reese Quick-Install Custom Bracket Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # RP50054. That said, you are not supposed to reuse any of the hardware so you may need the Replacement Hardware Kit for Reese 5th Wheel Base Rails part # RP58504 as well.

  • Best 5th Wheel Hitch For 2020 Ram 2500 Without Prep Package To Tow Trailer With Reese Revolution
We have exactly what you need to tow the fifth wheel trailer with the pivoting Reese Revolution pin box with the 2020 Ram 2500 without prep package. I recommend the custom install 5th wheel rails part # RP50054-58 for the bed of your Ram since you do not have the puck prep package. After you have the rails installed, I recommend the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30928 which is a 20,000 lb capacity fixed hitch. A slider hitch is not recommended with the pivoting pin box because...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Towing Setup for a 2017 Ram 2500 with 6-1/2 Foot Bed
For a 5th wheel installation kit that will work with your 2017 Ram 2500, I recommend taking a look at the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit part # RP50054-58 for inboard rails or part # RP56009-53 for outboard rails. An outboard 5th wheel installation kit will be much easier to install compared to an inboard 5th wheel installation kit. In most cases, the frame brackets used on an outboard kit will have mounting bolts that attach outside the frame rail. On inboard...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Base Rail Kit for 2018 Ram 2500
Yes, for your 2018 Ram 2500 I highly recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit # RP50054-58. This kit does include custom brackets that will line right up to existing holes in your Ram's frame rails so you don't have do drill into them at all during installation. This kit includes everything needed (frame brackets, hardware, and industry-standard base rails) to mount your existing Pro Series hitch to the truck. I have attached an installation video that you can use for...

  • Will Pullrite Super Glide Work With Curt or Reese Fifth Wheel Base Rails on 2018 Ram 2500
The only Pullrite Super Glide fifth wheel hitch that will work with either the Curt # C16427-204 or Reese # RP50054-58 custom base rails is the Pullrite that is the ISR Series (the ISR stands for "industry standard rails"). Though we do not carry these hitches I believe that would be the 2700 or 2900 models of Super Glide. As for the price difference there are regular fluctuations based on a number of factors but it isn't quality or hardware. Both these install kits come with the hardware...

  • Could Pullrite Fifth Wheel Hitch Fit Reese Rails Installed in 2017 Ram 2500 Short Bed
That is going to depend on the PullRite hitch you have. Some of their hitches are designed to fit industry standard fifth wheel rails like what the part # RP50054-58 provides and others are designed to fit only their rail bracket kits. The industry standard Pullrite hitches are called the ISR hitches. The tabs on them for mounting are 22 inches front to back. The # RP50054-58 is a fit for your 2017 Ram 2500 short bed without the factory rail kit.

For that you would want the part # RP50054-58. This is a custom install rail kit confirmed as a fit for your 2016 Ram 2500. These rails are designed will also fit your Valley hitch well since they are also industry standard rails....

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Install Bracket and Rail Kit for a 2017 Ram 2500 Power Wagon
Despite the Power Wagon package the bracket kits for your truck are the same as any 2017 Ram 2500. I checked with Reese to make sure there aren't any variances that would cause an issue. I recommend part # RP50054-58 for your hitch. It's a custom kit to make the install quicker and reduce the amount of drilling. I've linked an install video on a 2016 2500 for you as well. I'm not sure which fifth wheel hitch you're using but since the Power Wagon only comes in a short bed these days...

  • Fifth Wheel Rails, Hitch and Sidewinder for 2016 Ram 2500 with Ram Box
For your 2016 Ram 2500 with the Rambox and without the factory rail kit you would need to start with a fifth wheel rail kit confirmed as a fit. For that I would recommend a custom install kit like the part # RP50054-58 as it will minimize drilling and install time when compared to a universal kit. I attached an install video for this on a 2016 Ram 2500 just like yours. Then for the Blue Ox Patriot you would want the part # BWRVK3200. This will fit the Reese rails and will attach to the...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer King Pin Position on a 2016 Ram 2500 Short Bed with Reese Custom 5th Wheel Rails
On a 2016 Ram 2500 short bed that does NOT have the factory 5th wheel prep package and using Reese custom installation kit # RP50054-58 the measurement from the rear edge of the tailgate to the back of the rear rail will be 26-1/4 inches. But this puts the center of the king pin slightly forward of the center of the rear axle. Once installed the rails are compatible with your Pro Series 15K slider hitch.

For your 2017 Ram 2500 short bed you'd want to use a custom install fifth wheel rail kit part # RP50054-58 to install rails in the bed of your truck. To place the rear rail you'll need measure 26-1/4 inches from the rear edge of the truck bed to the rear edge of the rail like in the picture I attached. • Recommended 5th Wheel Install Kit for 2020 Ram 2500
I have two great options for fifth wheel install kits for a 2020 Ram 2500, the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit part # RP50054-58 and the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16427-204. They both require no drilling into the frame and work with all above bed mounted industry standard hitches. The Curt kits are usually a bit more cost effective so that is what I recommend.

  • Solutions For Fifth Wheel Trailer that is Too Tall to Tow Trailer Level with Ram Rail Kit Adapter
The best solution I can make for you would be to go with a shorter fifth wheel hitch. The shortest slider hitch we have for with a 20k capacity is the Pro Series part # PS30121 which is adjustable in height from 13-17 inches. Since I do not know what slider hitch you have right now I do not know how this would compare to what you have. Otherwise you could raise the trailer suspension with and over under kit. You can do this by moving the axles from being above the leaf springs to below...

Not every pin box on the market has a Sidewinder pin box replacement available for it. So before you buy a fifth wheel trailer you'd want to verify that the pin box of it is compatible. You can check out the link I attached to see a chart (near the bottom) with all of the Sidewinder replacements available for the various pin boxes. Or, some trailers have Reese Revolution pin boxes installed on them already. The Reese Revolution and the Sidewinder are the same thing so you might see if anything...

  • Fifth Wheel Rail Kit Recommendation for 2014 Ram 2500
For a fifth wheel rail kit that is confirmed as a fit for your 2014 Ram 2500 short bed we have the Reese kit part # RP50054-58. This is a custom install kit which means it will install in much less time than a universal kit and it will minimize drilling. You would need a slider hitch to make tight turns since short bed trucks have limited clearance. For that the Reese Titan part # RP30047 would fit and work well.

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for 2014 Ram 2500
For your 2014 Ram 2500, if you have the 8 foot bed, you will not need a sliding hitch but with a 6-1/2 foot bed it is recommended to allow you proper turning clearance. The standard bed normally refers to the 6-1/2 foot bed, but people use different terms, so I'll give you both options. For your rail kit, I recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50054-58 which comes with brackets specifically for your truck.
