This winch appears to be well contructed as it is supposedly made in the USA. It came neatly packaged with all the terminals color-coded to make installation fool-proof. I ran in to trouble when I used the fairlead mounting plate to mark the mounting holes to drill in the trailer mounting plate only to discover that the holes in the fairlead mounting plate do not line up with the threaded blind holes in the base of the winch. This resulted in considerable work in elongating the holes in both the fairlead plate and the trailer mounting plate (which is 1/2" steel plate) with a rat-tail file in order to get it mounted. Also, the electrical connection instructions are wrong - it states to connect the blue lead from the remote switches to the black lead on the conductor - this is completely wrong and confusing. The right way is to connect the black lead on the remote switch to the black lead on the conductor and the blue lead to the blue wire on the connector. In addition, the terminal rings on the battery cables are 2mm too small requiring me to drill out the holes in order to connect them. Other issues are that while I was told that this was suitable for winching a car onto an enclosed car trailer, it winches much more slowly than the X3 Superwinch it replaced and stopped 8" short of the e-track stop points for some reason - maybe the motor overheated. I let it cool down a bit and it drew the car in fully. I'm inclined to return this and get a bigger winch.

Hey Reno, there is a lot to say about this winch. If you are using your mounting plate from the Superwinch X3 it will require some filing because the mounting pattern is different. However, the fairlead should have lined up with the holes of the winch. That does sound like a quality control issue on Super winch's part. I can reach out to their quality control to find out what happened there so thank you for letting us know. The Superwinch Terra has the same motor as the old X3 but the weight capacity of this winch is actually more compared to the X3. I can see why the wiring diagram in the instructions is misleading but the blue to blue and black to black wiring that you mentioned is correct. The Superwinch Terra motor does have a 2 minute run time so it may be possible the motor is overheating and needs to cool down before it can pull your vehicle all the way into the trailer. It also has a 4,500 static load so if you are trying to winch a larger SUV or truck you may need more weight capacity. As far as the speed, it should be pulling the vehicle at a 5-1/2 foot per minute speed. Please let me know if it's not doing that and we can continue troubleshooting. Some of the common reasons for a slower moving winch are: the battery is weak or a weak ground connection. I know this seems like common sense but sometimes we miss these things! If you are looking to go with something with more weight capacity and more horse power, I recommend the one of the S Series Superwinch like part # SW1475201 this one will give you a 7500 lb line pull capacity and a 3.6 hp motor. Although you are looking at a higher price point.

Because of battery location on my kubota 1140, I had to improvise on installation of the battery cables. All worked out well. Was able to route the cable through the frame so no chance of anything snagging it.
Bolts seemed too short in mounting the winch so I opted to buy bolts a bit longer and higher strength grade. I’m a firm believer in overkill. Also opted to use a momentary switch that fits in the knockout on the dash for a cleaner look. Manufacturered a small mounting plate for the remote plug to install by the winch for convenience when rolling up the cable.
After all was done, winch works great and I was able to utilize pretty much everything that came with the kit. Great price, good product and fast shipping! A+++.

Winch is still working great with no problems. Used it to pull myself across a wash out. Winch pulls strong!

I can’t say enough about etrailer and the staff. They are top notch people to deal with. This review is on the Superwinch Terra 4500 wire rope, Superwinch custom fit mounting kit and Bulldog dash mount rocker switch. Installation on my 2017 Polaris Ranger XP1000 EPS, 3 passenger, single cab. I will try to attach pictures of front mounting plate, winch, wire routing and etc. The Superwinch mounting plate and winch assembly fit was an easy install. Decided to route winch wiring, wiring from winch remote cable and Bulldog dash mounted rocker switch down and back through the tunnel of the Ranger where there was existing wiring and coolant tubes and secured all wiring. I mounted the winch solenoid in the center bay beneath the center passenger seat where the ECM and fuse box and relay center is located. That put the solenoid in a dry location and made a good install. The circuit breakers w/cover are neat the battery as pictures show. Winch remote connector on left side of upper dash and Bulldog rocker switch to the right of existing dash switches. Received the etrailer order on Wednesday June 25th, started install on Friday the 27th and finished on Saturday the 28th after deciding on how I wanted to route all wiring. The Superwinch works like a charm, rocker switch and remote function great. Installation is clean and I hope the pictures show what a neat installation this was. Dealing with etrailer is always a good experience and I will be back. Now I’ll try to include pictures.

This is a review for the superwinch Terra 45. I had a couple issues when installing this winch but Westin Automotive (parent company) was outstanding in their customer service. I didn't have to wait long and they were extremely helpful sending me a replacement part overnight shipment free. I called more than once and they were great every time! Love the winch too!

Brand new but so far, so good. Mounted to a receiver hitch so it can be used and removed from prying eyes when not being used. Simple to install. Used to pull "rolling stock" up onto trailer in a straight line pull. Rolling stock only. No problem.

Still working great. Modified the Ranger mount to accept it.

So far so good one year later. I have it mounted on a 16’ car trailer, only pulled up 2 sedans with it with aired up tires. I don’t expect it to pull cars with flat tires, but aired up it does just fine. No complaints here good winch! Does it’s job

Fairly east to install on my 2023 Honda Pioneer 500.
Bought the KFI winch mounting plate. The winch is well made but...
When using the included bolts to mount the winch, the included winch fairlead plate and the KFI mount, the included bolts are to short. So you need to track down the grade 8 metric bolts 1/4 inch longer. When doing the electrical hook up, the wiring from the battery to the winch solenoid is about 3 feet to short when hooking up on the Pioneer 500. More searching and buying of STUFF that should be included. Other than that a pretty easy install.

Everything about the winch seems well made. The extensive use of cast iron gives confidence to the quality of construction. It has all the useful features I need, especially the remote switch. The wires supplied were soft and pliable.

I used a few 4x4s across the front of the trailer bed to raise up the winch so that the cable can reach 12 feet to the rear. The 4x4s are bolted from the top and down through the bed frame with a single threaded rod, and also vertically to the railing, at the ends. The railing is further supported by chains to the front hitch. The chain can be loosened easily and dropped down so that I can climb over the hitch easily.

I modified a 1/4” piece of steel boiler plate to mount to the front rail and top 4x4, PICTURE 1. The steel boiler plate is secured at all 4 corners. The winch mount plate, PICTURE 2, is sandwiched between the steel boiler plate and the winch and held to the winch by 4 bolts, shown in PICTURE 3. This becomes one single assembly, held to the trailer by 4 nuts, and easily removed when not in use. PICTURE 4 shows the mounting studs for the winch assembly. In PICTURE 5, the releasable and turnbuckle chains help to take the stress off the front rail of the trailer. A common use for the winch would be for small tractors up to 1500 pounds.

My van has existing #2 wire coming from the battery for a winch inside the van. It was a matter of tapping into that for the relay and installing a 60amp receptacle for a plug. The winch is plugged into the receptacle, something I’ve done with my existing van winch without any trouble.

I will always store the winch inside my van, but allowing it to be unplugged and stored in the garage is another plus.

This is the best winch I've ever had, I installed it on a 17 Honda Rubicon with a strongmade bumper, looks good and pulls great and etrailer has fast shipping and great customer service.

by:

Great product. This is my second Superwinch and both have worked flawlessly.

by:

Thank you George for your support this terra winch is going to get a work out on this polaris work horse. I relocated the battery to assist winch plus your winch mount installation was easy.

by:

I purchased the 2,500 pound terra recovery series winch, and custom fit ATV winch mounting kit on june 19th. I received both products on June 21st. The customer service during the order placement and and shipping was outstanding. They called me just to verify that my order had been placed, was being pulled, and would ship that day. The instructions were easy to follow, and with the supplied hardware everything mounted exactly like it should have. The wiring instructions were a little harder to follow. The mounting procedure for the rocker switch, solenoid, and circuit breaker could have been a little more detailed. Especially when it came to which hardware to use to install those pieces. Also the red and black 6 GA wires were not long enough to reach my battery from the position I had to mount the solenoid. That is the reason I only gave 4 stars. Overall though, it was a great experience, I will be recommending this site to the people I go riding with. Thanks etrailer!

My Superwinch Terra 2500 has served me well, I have used it on my ATV with a snow blade for wintertime plowing roads at my cabin and out on the ice. It has worked nicely for pulling in my roll in dock at the lake. i have also used it to winch trees when cutting wood. It has fullfilled every task that I have used it for at the lake.

by:

Easy install, great instructions. Winch fit real well, no problems mounting it. Havent used it alot yet , but so far it works great.
