Video Transcript for Complete Breakdown of the Locking Paddle Handle w/ Internal Release

Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the pedal handle locking latch. This is going to keep your door or panel closed. It's very easy to operate. It's spring loaded.

That latch is always going to rest in the closed position. This will lock with the included key to make sure that you can't open that latch. Turn this around, you can see we also have a release knob here that's going to allow us to open the latch from the inside. So, if we're using this on a door, we can easily open that up, or if it's under the compartment, good safety measure to make sure that if someone we're to get caught in that compartment, they could open it up from the inside. They wouldn't be stuck in there. This is a nice sturdy zinc plated steel construction.

So, it's going to be very durable and resist corrosion. I'll just give you a little bit of the backside view here. As I'm opening this up, you can see that our keeper is being retracted. And then when I turn the key to lock it in place, that's going to prevent our latch from opening up. And if I move that, it allows us to bring it up again from either the inside or the outside. Now, the important thing to know for any locking latch like this, it's going to be the dimensions.

So, this is going to have an overall length right about five-and-a-half inches. Overall width, you can call it at about four-and-a-quarter. Our cut out dimensions, we're going to be looking at right about four-and-five-eighths, just over four-and-a-half inches for our cutout. And then our cutout width, we're going to be right about three-and-three-eighths of an inch.Overall, I think this is going to be a great option for those of you who are needing to either add a latch or replace a current one. I think this is going to hold up well for you and be very strong, durable, and to help to make sure that your compartment not only stays closed, but also can be locked so you can keep all your valuables inside without having to worry about anyone getting to them.

So, that's going to complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

Good quality. Just as advertised and arrived quickly. I was very pleased. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because I felt there should be 2 keys. Although the picture of the product does show only one key I didn’t think about that until it had been received and installed

Glad you like it, Marcia! Well, except for it just coming with one key. That is a little surprising and I will see if I can get with Polar Hardware to include two from now on. It would make more sense. What did you install this on?

by:

I was thinking it would work on my trailer door that is about 1 1/8" thick but the distance from the spring latch to the face plate is only 15/16" so it seems I would have to cut out more of the door than I had hoped as it would weaken the edge of the door maybe too much so I dont think it will work..it is probably a good latch but not suited to my application

by:

I like it however the lock itself has become very loose and I’m scared it’s gonna fall out. Is there anyway this can be fixed. I don’t have the means to remove and reinstall.

Hey Sharon, is the handle as a whole loose or is it just the lock cylinder itself? Just trying to see what routes we can take to get that more secure for you.

by:

Customer was very happy with this product. It was exactly what he wanted.

by:

These were exactly what i was looking for. They are heavy duty and work great! I used them on tool drawers in the bed of my truck. They are raw metal so can rust is not finished.

by:

Installation was quick and easy. Really happy with the result.

by:

Great company. Fast service. Quality door handle

by:

I used this to replace a bar and latch on my cargo trailer to make the door more like an RV door... This required some custom work but I am very happy with it.

The latch is lockable from the outside but can still be opened from the inside when locked; a good safety feature.

by:

Exactly what I needed and worked out be autifully!!

by:

This item was an exact replacement for the entry latch on my Tuff Shed barn. The original latch lasted about 15 years and so far this one has been an excellent replacement.

It’s still working just like it did when we first put it on the door.

by:

While the product appears to be well constructed, it does not fit my application, I would recommend you add dimensions to your website brochure to possibly reduce this type of problem in the future. I have sent a request for return to your customer service department.

On the product description page, we list that the overall dimensions of the latch is 5-12 long x 4-14 inches wide and that it fits a rough opening 4-58 long x 3-38 inches wide.

Always a pleasure to purchase from etrailer.com the follow up is prompt and your components are accurately pictured and described excellent quality and value. My go to for horse, boat, and travel trailer repairs and up grades.Thank you.

by:

It appears to me that this handle is better quality and and more durable than the original equipment

The service and response to questions from etrailer was excellent!!

by:

I found this door latch on your site and it fit my trailer door perfect. Made well and shipping was fast. Thanks and I'll well be back you have great prices and fast shipping.

by:

After I realized this would not work for the application, I previously bought it for and a few emails with Samantha B. the item was to be returned for a shipping charge for $[XX] when item was purchased I only payed $[XX] for shipping. So I think this is a bit of a price gouging on the return. I will make sure this gets on social medial too. and not longer will I look at any product on this website.

by:

As always etrailer have exceeded expectations quality product at a fair price if I ever get this project done I’ll include some pics

by:

used them for a door latch on homemade side by side doors and have not had any issues in getting used every day for over a year

by:

This product is exactly as was described and is very good quality. Excellent customer service and very fast shipping.

by:

Works well, sturdy. Use it almost daily, but it is a location that is not exposed to the elements. Works the same as day 1.

by:

Easy replacement no problem with instal lation!

by:

Received my order quickly, switched it my lock and it worked perfectly. Thank you

by:

Well send picture when installed. Plan on making a piece to lock latch from inside. Well made! Will be installed on a cargo trailer/camper conversion.

Oh my goodness I am sorry to hear about the break in! I hope everyone is safe and you're able to get some justice

by:

Outside of being on backorder and delayed for a week, this lock is what I needed. It would be helpful if there was a cut template included. The lock is a bit cheap. We'll see how it lasts.

  • Replacement Door Latch for 1999 Featherlite Horse Trailer
While we do not have the ability to pull part numbers from OEM build sheets, from images online it appears similar to # PLR5115. The measurement on this option is 5-1/2" by 4-1/4" requires a cutout of approximately 4-5/8" by 3-3/8". I suggest you compare this to the measurements of your trailer. Another option is the Global Link RV Entry Door Locking Latch Kit, # 295-000019 that fits doors 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" thick with a cutout that is between 2-1/2" to 3" wide x 3-1/2" to 4" tall. Please...

Hi Jake; yes, the Locking Paddle Handle w/ Internal Release # PLR5115 can be opened from the inside when it is locked.
