Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2014 Ford Flex

Today on our 2014 Ford Flex, we'll be installing the tow-ready T1 vehicle wiring harness with a four-pole flat trailer connector, part number 118472. In conjunction with our tow-ready wiring, we're going to be installing a short bracket, part number 18140, as well as the four flat connector bracket, part number 18144. To begin our installation we'll need to raise the rear hatch of the vehicle. In order to remove the tail light assembly, we'll need to take out this bolt here and this bolt here. Once we have the two bolts removed we'll need to gently pull towards the rear of the vehicle on the tail light assembly as there's a couple more tabs that we'll need to release that are behind the light assembly. Next we're going to disconnect the wiring from the back side of the light assembly. We'll push in right here on this little locking tab and gently pull outward. We'll go ahead and repeat the same process over here on the passenger side.

Now we're going to go ahead and take an old section of air line tubing here and use it as a pull wire. We'll go ahead and feed it down from the top side down underneath the rear bumper fascia. Going to go ahead and tape our wiring off here to our pull wire. Now we'll go ahead and pull up our wire over here on the driver's side, and on the driver's side you'll be pulling up the yellow, the brown and the white wire up into the tail light assembly area, so when making our connection here we'll be tying in this side of the T connector with the factory wiring plug that go together like this. You push it together, you want to make sure that you hear it click into position and that the locking tab secures it. We're going to then need to take the self-tapping screw supplied with the kit and attach our white wire here with the ring terminal on it to the body of the vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and take the other half of our T connection, plug it into the back of the tail light assembly.

Again, you want to make sure that you hear it click so that you know its locked into position. Now we're ready to go ahead and reinstall our tail light assembly. Line up the two tabs in the body here. Once you have the two tabs pushed back into place, we'll reinstall the two bolts that we removed earlier. We'll go ahead and take our wires, we'll route the four flat to the center of the vehicle and the green wire with the two connections on it, we need to route that all the way over to the passenger side. When routing your wire, you want to make sure you stay away from any areas that may become hot or move or have sharp edges, as they could all easily damage the wire. We'll be using a few zip ties along the way to help secure the wire.

As we did over on the driver's side, we'll again over here on the passenger side use our old section of air line tubing to help fish the wire up into place. Now that we've got our wire pulled up into position, we'll go ahead and connect half of the T connection to our factory wiring. Slide it in place and make sure you hear it click so that it's secure and locked into position. We need to go ahead and plug the other half of the T connection into the back of our light assembly. We'll then go ahead and reinstall the tail light assembly. We're going to go ahead and attach our four flat bracket to our short bracket here first, using the supplied hardware. Next we're going to go ahead and feed our four flat here through the large opening in the short bracket and then we'll put it into the four flat bracket.

To protect the wires here a little bit, we're going to go ahead and add a small section of half-inch wire loom over the wires right here and use a couple of little zip ties to help keep it in place. Go ahead and trim off the zip ties to clean up our look. We'll then go ahead and take our bracket and slide it over our hitch. We're going to take the hose clamp that comes with the kit, slide it around the hitch and through the bracket and come back down to itself here, feed it back through, then go ahead and tighten down our clamp. Go ahead and trim off the excess of the clamp. Now we'll go ahead and trim off any excess zip tie to help clean up our install look. Now we'll go ahead and test out our new flour flat. We'll put the ground on our open prong in the four flat, we'll then turn a running light circuit on. As you can see here, that's working fine. Left turn, right turn and brakes. So we have brakes. As you can see here, all of our functions are working just fine. That'll do it for the installation of our tow-ready T1 vehicle wiring harness, part number 118472, on our 2014 Ford Flex. .

I professionally installed this trailer wire on my Ford Flex 2011. It corrupted my wiring system in 2 weeks. It made my running lights on my Flex to not work at all. Secondly, this product is after market which voids your warranty. The only wiring that the Flex can handle is from the front fuse box. I learned the hard way and had to have this wiring removed from my Flex which cost me an additional $68 dollars. I strongly suggest not using this product and have Ford install your trailor light wiring since it will not void your warranty. 20160

Photos of our T-one wiring harness install this afternoon on our 2012 Ford Flex. Should be comprehensive, but I have a few other photos. I ziptied to the factory harness where I could, and had to clip the last one of your zipties to get enough slack. Ground wire unzipped a little. Drilled & Dremel'd off the finish, then used "Noalox" between the ring terminal & body, then sealed with caulk. I will add some split-loom later where the trailer plug wiring goes into the backside of the tow bumper. I added electrical tape to the green wire (not shown in photos), and any other place I thought might rub. 4-pin connector just wedged into the factory slot. 97913

Overall good product, work as intended. Only thing I would change is the ground eyelet. Im not drilling into tge body of my car for a rust area later in it's life. I added a larger eyelet and put the ground on the hitch mount bolt. 526790

Incredibly Easy to install. Do read the instructions, it does make it little easier to understand which color of the harness goes on which side of the tail light. Take the tail lights out, unplug your brake light plug, clip in the provided harness, plug your tail light plug back in, put the tail light back on, secure it with bolts and hide the wires. That was easy. Great product and sure beats cutting, pinching or soldering of the aftermarket harnesses onto the OEM wires. 443064

After 3 1/2 hours we got the hitch and wiring on. First off, holes wouldn't line up because hitch was hitting spare tire well, so had to grind off corner of hitch to clear. Then slots were spaced too far apart (from one side of car to other) so we had to file 1/8 inch out of slots so that we could get screws to line up with holes in car. When it came time to install wiring kit after an hour or so I finally cut the single wire going to the right side and dropped the wire down from the top and then respliced the wire. I just couldn't pull the end of the wire with all the connectors on it up through the small access area. If you would install a small connector on the single wire so that you could disconnect the end of the "right" wires drop the end of the wire down and then reconnect the wires like I did it would save splicing the wire back together and making it much easier to install that "right" wire. 667298

Wonderful product. Excellent customer service. From the product descriptions in the beginning, the installation instructions and the personalized follow up, working with etrailer.com is what you expect from a top-notch company. I will note, however, that the installation is not a one-man job. An extra set of hands would of come in helpful. I used a set of jack stands and my vehicle jack to improvise and to help lift the hitch into position until I could get a bolt to catch. After that it was all a breeze as the hitch utilized existing holes on the frame. No drilling! Even the wiring was made simple and fool proof. I would definitely use this company and product again. 661449

Very easy install! The only tough part was where to support the wires under the bumper. There is not a lot of options on my Flex. I didn't want to tie them to the hitch, so it took a little longer to secure them to my satisfaction, As far as the comments about the flasher activating rather quickly when the harness is plugged in.....I have not experienced that at all. It works like it was expected to. 473981

I chose to install the wiring harness first. It was designed to fit the existing vehicle harness with a couple of perfectly fitting sockets Routing was easy and used my personal choice for securing. The hitch was obviously designed for strength and durability with good powder coat paint and faultless welds. Installation was simple but for me I needed two more hands to lift and hold in place until the four bolts were secure. I do not foresee any problems in the years ahead. The pricing was good and free shipping was appreciated. All contacts with etrailer were professional and knowledgeable. 419426

  • Recommended Curt Trailer Hitch for 2018 Ford Flex with Dual Exhaust
  • The Curt trailer hitch receiver confirmed to fit your 2018 Ford Flex with dual exhaust is part # C13110. It is a fit for 2009 - 2018 Ford Flex with Dual Exhaust. For your trailer wiring, you may want to consider the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118472. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your Ford Flex's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for 2018 Ford Flex
  • From what I found your 2018 Ford Flex could have a maximum towing capacity up to 4,500 pounds if equipped properly. I recommend checking your owner's manual or with Ford's towing guide and match up the features of your Flex to find it's towing capacity. I recommend the Curt hitch, part # C13110, for your 2018 Ford Flex because it's tucked under the bumper about 3/4 of an inch more than the Draw-Tite hitch. Although they're both pretty visible. For the wiring start with the 4-way...

The hitch has a 400 lbs tongue weight capacity and a 4000 lbs gross trailer weight capacity. The 4-pole will push into the mounting bracket from behind. Your other option would be to use the same # 18136 bracket, along with the # 118137 bracket. You'd then use a # 30601 knockout adapter. • Hitch Installation Specs for the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75679 on a 2012 Ford Flex
  • The torque specs for the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75679 that you referenced are listed in the installation instructions that I attached to the right. For liability reason I cannot list them here since they are subject to change. I attached an install video for this hitch for you to check out also. For trailer wiring you would want the Tow Ready wiring harness part # 118472. For ball mounts I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch...

  • Brake Controller Install 2010 Ford Flex
  • According to my buddy at Tekonsha, all models of the 2010 Flex are equipped with the brake controller connector. It's located right behind the front edge of the dash, directly below the steering column. You'll need the # 3035-P Brake Controller Wiring Adapter. If your Flex has the factory installed 7-way trailer connector at the rear, you'll have a plug and play installation. The procedure will be different if you have the 4-pole or if you have no trailer connector. If you have the...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2014 Ford Flex without Factory Tow Package
  • Tow Ready trailer wiring harness # 118472 is just one option for the 2014 Ford Flex. Its the only option that does not have a powered converter like you are describing (for models without factory tow package). There could potentially be too much power draw if you were to use this harness. Since that is a major concern for you I recommend using Curt harness # C56343 instead. It does require a direct connection to the vehicle battery. I have included a link to our help article with tips...

  • Is a Powered Converter Needed to Add Trailer Wiring for a 2011 Ford Flex SEL
  • If your 2011 Ford Flex SEL did not come with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector then you can either use the T-connector without the converter, # 118472, or you could use one with a powered converter, # C56343. Either harness will work. The benefit of having the powered converter is that it gets power for the trailer lights from the vehicle battery, not through the tail light wiring. This adds another level of circuit protection. Whenever there is a powered converter available for...

I have included a link to the installation details for this harness for reference.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for 2014 Ford Flex Towing a 3,200 Pound Camper Trailer
  • I suggest a weight distribution system that has sway control. To choose the correct system you'll need the tongue weight of your loaded and ready to tow trailer added to the amount of gear in the Ford Flex behind its rear axle. A trailer's tongue weight should fall within about 10 to 15 percent of its total weight. The best way to determine your trailer's tongue weight is to use a scale # 5780 Since your trailer is 3,200 pounds empty and it's presumable that you will be adding to...

  • 7-Way and Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2012 Ford Flex
  • Since you do not have a factory trailer wiring you will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118472. From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake...

  • Least Visible Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2012 Ford Flex Limited EcoBoost Dual Exhaust
  • All of the trailer hitches available for your 2012 Ford Flex with dual exhaust have the same design and install in the same places on the vehicle so they will all look pretty much the same. The cross tube will be visible beneath the rear bumper but is recessed enough to not be glaring. The most popular option is Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75679 but Curt hitch # C13110 will work just as well and actually costs slightly less. If that is your top choice then its a good one and I recommend...

  • Will Curt Trailer Hitch 13551 Fit a 2009 Ford Flex SE with Dual Exhaust
  • You can install the Curt trailer hitch # 13551 on a 2009 Ford Flex with dual exhaust. It actually fits all models of the Flex. The instructions which I have linked for you reference the muffler hangers on both sides. You can use our videos as a guide and you will just need to apply the parts regarding the exhaust to both sides of the vehicle. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK4. It comes with a ball mount, interchangeable ball set, hitch pin...

  • Trailer Hitch for a 2012 Ford Flex Towing a 3,000 Pound Boat Trailer
  • Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75679 is rated for up to 4,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 400 pounds tongue weight so it can easily handle a 3,000 pound boat with 300 pounds tongue weight. You will want to check the owners manual for your 2012 Ford Flex to make sure it also has the capacity needed. If your Flex did not come with a factory installed trailer connector you can add one using wiring harness # 118472. It just plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring. I have included...

  • Class III Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2010 Ford Flex
  • We do have Class III trailer hitches for the 2010 Ford Flex, but the receiver and cross tubing of any of them will be visible below the rear fascia. The most popular hitch for the Ford Flex is the Draw Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75679. I have included a link to the installation instructions and a link to a video showing a typical installation. If you plan to do some towing, I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit, # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and...

  • Will The Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier # C18153 Fit My 2010 Ford Flex
  • To determine if the Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier # C18153, will fold up on your 2010 Ford Flex, you will need to take a measurement. Measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your hitch out to the farthest point of your rear bumper. If this measurement is less than 9 inches, the Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier will fold up when mounted to you Ford Flex. If you find that you need more than 9 inches of clearance, I recommend the Draw-Tite Hitch Cargo Carrier, part # 6502, which measures 13...

The newest converter designs on them seem to be better in that regard. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation of the Tekonsha harness for you.

If you do not have any trailer wiring connectors at all I would recommend you get a Curt Wiring Harness # C56095. This wiring harness has been confirmed to fit your vehicle and would work well. I attached installation instructions for this product for you to check out.

  • Parts Needed to Install a 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller on a 2010 Ford Flex
  • Because the # ETBC7 installation is a hardwire installation, it is basically the same on every vehicle. I have included some links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation. It isn't all that difficult but is time-consuming depending on how you route the wires and whether or not the vehicle is equipped with a 4-Way flat trailer connector already. If your 2010 Ford Flex does not have a 4-Way flat the first step is to install one using # 118472. It will just plug in line with the vehicle...

  • Recommended Parts Needed to Tow with a 2019 Ford Flex
  • The trailer hitch that I recommend using to tow a small trailer with your 2019 Ford Flex is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame # 75679 because it has a second, smaller, hitch pin hole that allows you to use the Tow Ready J-Pin Stabilization Pin and Barrel Lockset # 63201 to help keep a ball mount or accessory steady and locked. The J-Pin is useful for those accessories that don't have a locking or anti-rattle hitch pin so the ability to use this option is definitely a benefit. Then for wiring I...

Since the Ecoboost models have dual exhaust, the sections in the instructions that deal with lowering the exhaust will apply to both sides. I also recommend the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900.
