This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area, on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold and some interior lining to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in your trunk.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Today we're going to review part number HM11141930. This is the Hopkins plug-in vehicle-specific wiring harness with the 4-pole trailer connector for the Lexus. This is a custom fit part number. It is designed to fit the 2007 to 2012 Lexus ES 350. Now this plug-in simple custom wiring kit will utilize your factory connectors to attach your trailer wiring harness to. There's no cutting or splicing required. Give you this 4-pole flat trailer connector at the rear of your vehicle to plug in the trailer to.
It does have the corrosion-resistant terminals and the nice dust cover that would, when it's not being used, you can put over it to help protect it also. Everything shown here is included. It includes this power converter module with the wiring. It includes the 14-gauge extra power wire that you would need to run from the module up to the battery. It includes this fuse assembly wire that you would connect. When you connect the power wire to the battery you do want to put a fuse connection in there.
Comes with the 15-amp fuse to plug in there. Comes with the screw to give you a ground screw if needed, some zip ties to take up any of the extra wire, and a package of dielectric grease. Now basically this powered converter right here, this will adapt your vehicle's wiring system to work with the trailer. Using this will safeguard the vehicle's wiring system by pulling power directly for the trailer lights from the vehicle battery so you don't go through the existing wiring of the vehicle - protects it. That's why this red wire right here is an extra wire that you run to the battery to get power to this module. Just real quickly I'll show you how this hooks up. Now specs on this module, the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights is three amps per circuit, and for the taillights it's six amps.
Basically when you attach this to your vehicle you go to the rear of the vehicle and these connectors right here, these OEM-style connectors, these will plug into the back of the taillights. The one that has the yellow wire in it, that would be for the driver side. You'll go behind the driver side taillight in the rear, pull the connection off, and attach these. Then the green wire would run over to the passenger side, and same way you'd plug these in, so there's no cutting or anything. Plug this into the passenger side taillight. Now the white wire on this side that comes out, you can see has an eyelet on it.
This would need to be grounded to a good clean ground. Again, you can use the included screw if needed. The other wire is this red wire, and again, this was the power wire. You'd take this connector, plug it into an end of this 14-gauge power wire, run it to the front of the car. Then the other end of this you would plug into here so you have a fuse connector on it. Then this end would connect to your battery. Than you'll just take your 15-amp fuse, plug it into the holder, close it, and you'll be ready to go. It's pretty simple to connect; just takes a little time. The hitch appears to be a good quality but it doesn’t allow for the rear facia clips to be reinstalled afterwards as the instructions suggest you should do. I was also disappointed that the wiring harness requires that a wire be run all the way to the battery. In the past I’ve purchased harnesses that simply plugs into the vehicle lighting harness and are grounded but don’t require the long single wire to the battery.
This is the second hitch order I have received in a 2 year period. Great products that FIT and Quick shipping.
