Features to know about

Installs Fast Without Cutting Wires: Plug-In T-Connector Harness

Wiring a trailer can look complicated, but this Curt T-Connector makes it simple. It plugs right into your vehicle’s existing tail light connectors, so there’s no splicing or guessing. Everything snaps together cleanly behind the trim panels for a fast, factory-style setup that gets your trailer lights running right away.

Image showing the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-pole flat trailer connector, including plug-in connectors and powered converter for trailer light installation

Protects Vehicle Wiring: Powered Converter Design

A built-in powered converter keeps your vehicle’s wiring safe by drawing power directly from the battery instead of the tail light circuit. This isolates the factory system and prevents overload or feedback when the trailer lights are on. It’s the right setup for consistent performance and long-term reliability.

Ready for LED and Standard Trailer Lights: 4-Pole Flat Connector

The 4-flat plug gives you all the basics—running, turn, and brake lights—and works with both LED and incandescent trailer lighting. It’s the most common connector type, ready to hook up to most small trailers right out of the box.

Clean, Hidden Setup When Not in Use: Interior-Stored Connector

Once installed, the 4-way connector tucks neatly into the rear cargo area when not in use. That keeps it protected from weather and road grime, so it’s always clean and ready for your next trip. Pull it out when you need to tow, close it back inside when you’re done—simple and tidy.

Still working great after one year. No troubles at all.

The wiring harness is easy to install and protects the vehicle wiring from overloading without any splicing of wires. This is the second one I have used. The first lasted 15 years. The instructions include worthless photographs like other Chinese parts. CURT should include a wiring diagram for the novice.

Super Easy install. Installed on my 1998 Ford Explorer, 20 year old vehicle! I tested the factory install tow package wiring and found the break light without power. This is plug and play into your current taillights and wired for power to the battery. Recommended.

Instructions could have been a little better for someone with no wiring experience, but were fine for me. So far everything works great when I have the trailer hooked up.

  • Recommended 7-Way Connector and Brake Controller for a 1998 Ford Explorer
Hey Charles if you have the factory 4-way flat it will connect behind the driver's side rear brake light underneath your 1998 Ford Explorer. If your 4-way does not connect there it's probably an aftermarket one like the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C55345 and it attaches behind the tail lights. Either way it doesn't look like there's a port to plug in a brake controller on your Explorer whether or not you have the tow package. Here are the rest of the parts you'll need...

  • What Wiring do I Need to Use a Brake Controller in My 1999 Ford Explorer XLT with 5L Engine?
Hello Stephane, Great question, let's get you the right wiring so we can get you out camping! You are going to need 2 different wiring kits to be able to use your brake controller. First you are going to need to need the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C55345, this wiring is a little more simple to install as it is considered a "plug-n-play" as it installs with connectors through your back tail lights. This wiring is what gets all your lights...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack to Carry Adult Trike on 2000 Ford Explorer
Even though we don't have any bike racks to carry your trike, I do have a solution for you. You can add a hitch and a small utility trailer. First the hitch, you could use the Curt # 13540 or Curt # C13106 hitch. Both allow you to keep your full size spare tire in place. I included links to both of these. As they are similarly priced, I recommend the Curt # 13540 because it is a little easier to install. This "hitch" gets you the part that bolts onto your Explorer frame and the 2" square...

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for 1997 Ford Explorer without Trailer Wiring
I have a solution for you but I cannot recommend you disable your license plate light so that you would potentially be able to install trailer wiring. Since your 1997 Ford Explorer doesn't have trailer wiring what you will need is the Curt Kit part # C55345 which will install in line with your vehicle taillights and is a confirmed fit.

  • Does Trailer Hitch for 1995 Ford Explorer Increase Towing Capacity
There is nothing that can be added to your 1995 Ford Explorer that will increase its towing capacity, including the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75096. The towing capacity is set by the vehicle manufacturer and that cannot be changed. Hitches are often made with higher capacities than the vehicles they fit, but this is just indicative of what it was tested to and not the capability of the vehicle. I have added a link to the instructions for you to check out as well of the Draw-Tite...

  • Available 2-Inch Class III Trailer Hitches for 1998 Ford Explorer 2-Door
We offer several brands of 2-inch Class III hitches for your 1998 Ford Explorer 2-Door and these are offered with several different tongue weight and gross trailer weight ratings. The link at right will let you see all Class III hitches for your Explorer, including the Curt # 13540. None of these require drilling for installation and many still allow for re-installation of a full-size spare tire after the hitch is in place. Of all hitches offered I suggest the Curt # C13106 since it...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2000 Ford Explorer that Allows Full Size Spare to Be Kept
I have a hitch solution that will allow you to keep the full sized spare underneath your 2000 Ford Explorer, but the Curt part # C13033 will not allow this. Instead you would need the part # 13540 which is also a confirmed fit for your vehicle but it does allow you to keep the spare. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop....

  • Right Turn Signal on 2001 Ford Explorer Will Not Turn Off With T-One Wiring Harness Installed
If all of your connections look good, I would suspect that the converter box of the harness may be bad, especially if the turn signal on the truck turns off once you remove the fuse. It is possible for the ModuLite converters to short out. It sounds like power is back feeding onto the wires going to your right turn signal. You can test the the harness to see if this is the case. First, replace the fuse on the power wire so power is being sent to the converter box. Next, unplug the connection...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2000 Ford Explorer XLT
For a low cost Class III hitch that fits your 2000 Ford Explorer XLT I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III # 13540. This hitch features a bolt-on installation and a 2" receiver. It has a maximum gross trailer weight of 4,000 lbs and max tongue weight of 400 lbs. It also comes with a limited lifetime warranty. If you plan on doing some towing, you will also need wiring and a ball mount. The Curt # C55345 will give you a 4-way to power your trailer's signal...

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 1999 Jeep Cherokee
All you need to install a 4-way trailer wiring harness on your 1999 Jeep Cherokee is the Curt Wiring Harness part # C55345. This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your Jeep Cherokee's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

  • How to Bypass the Factory Trailer Connector on a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer
You can bypass the factory trailer wiring harness on your 2000 Mercury Mountaineer by installing Curt wiring harness # C55345. It plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring and connects to the vehicle battery to power the trailer lights. This will provide a 4-Way flat connector at the rear of the vehicle. If you need a 7-Way connector, then you would just add # ETBC7. I have included some links that explain the ETBC7 installation for you. I do not have a wiring diagram for the...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2003 Ford Escape without Factory Tow Package
Traditionally with powered converters LED lights are not a problem. But what I recommend for your 2003 Ford Escape is the Tow Ready wiring harness # 118345. It is most definitely a fit for a 2003 Ford Escape and there should be no issues with LED lights. The powered converter is the way to go because the trailer lights will be powered by the vehicle battery and the tail lights will be isolated from the system for protection. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you...

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2001 Ford Explorer 4-Door
Yes, I checked with Draw-Tite and the part # 75096 that you referenced is confirmed to fit your 2001 Ford Explorer 4-door. I attached installation instructions for you to check out. For trailer wiring you would want the Curt Wiring Harness part # C55345. For a ball mount, hitch ball, and pin and clip, I would recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit, part # 989900. This is a kit which includes 2 ball mounts, a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, and a hitch pin and clip.

  • Trailer Connector on 1998 Ford Explorer Sport has Power All the Time
If you happen to be using Curt trailer wiring harness # C55345 on your 1998 Ford Explorer Sport then they do usually have a little bit of power all the time. It is usually enough power to dimly light incandescent trailer lights. There are a couple of things you can do. First, you could just make sure to always leave the trailer unplugged when the vehicle is off. Or you could install a battery isolation solenoid, such as # PK5231201 in line with the power wire for the wiring harness. The...
