Hi there I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this car LD custom fit sidestep. This is a rugged die-cast and aluminum alloy. It's gonna have a square edged shape, and this is gonna provide about a five inch drop to help you more easily get into and out of your vehicle. This is designed to work on your Sprinter type vans. It will work for several years and packages of the Dodge Sprinter.
The Freightliner Sprinter and Sprinter 2,500 as well as 3,500. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Sprinter 2500 and 3500 . And the Ram ProMaster 1500, 2500 and 3500. We do have a vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com that will allow you to select your year, make and model. And we'll let you know which products will fit for your vehicle.
So after you've gone through that, if we are showing this as a fit for your vehicle, you can rest assured that this is going to fit precisely the way it's supposed to. They do include instructions and hardware to get this all installed. This has a multi-mount system that's going to provide a simple and precise fit for your vehicle. These mounting heads will attach to your rocker panel and you can see they do have this line here, this kinda curve. That's going to allow us to rotate for a perfect fit on your vehicle.
You are gonna have to do a little bit of drilling to get this installed. But like I said all the details are in the instructions. Very easy to follow and make sure everything's installed the way it should be. So this is gonna provide a very nice large 14 inch wide by four inch deep flat step platform for you to step up on. This has a 500 pound weight capacity.
So it's gonna be very solid for you. As you're stepping up, you can see this does have this diamond type tread. That's going to give us a very aggressive traction as we're stepping in. So no matter if we're in snow or rain or whatever the case maybe our feet are going to have plenty of traction there. So we're not gonna slip off. This is going to extend about two inches further from your vehicle than other sidesteps. And so it's going to give you lots of clearance, especially as you're coming out, be able to see where you're putting your foot as you're making your way out. Like I said, this is an aluminum construction. So of course it is going to be rust-proof and very durable, but they also have this XP3 Black Powder Coat Finish. That's going to give it that textured, lightly textured matte black appearance. And of course that powder coat is going to help. It is going to resist chipping, peeling and fading. And so it is gonna hold up really well for you and last you a nice long time. And it is gonna look really nice on your vehicle as well. With that black matte finish, it's gonna look. Give it a nice, subtle style to your vehicle. Multi-Mount system ensures a precise, stable fit.The quality of these steps are great however to say they “fit” the Mercedes Sprinter is quite deceiving. When installed as per the instructions, you have only 5” of ground clearance remaining. My fear is that the first irregular driveway will rip them off as they are so low to the ground.

Mounted step about halfway on front edge of seat. Entering truck, my foot placement is towards the back of the step. Exiting the truck, my foot placement misses the step. I would move the step further back (front edge of step with front edge of seat) if I was to install another set. Mounting hardware does not sit perfectly against frame due to rivets, bolts, and other structural members of the truck. Final location is somewhat dictated by these obstacles. Used supplied and extra shims to fill in gaps between frame and mounting brackets. Final install was solid and product is well made.
I received the step(s) in good condition and they appear to be strong. However, I do have issues with the installation drawing. I cannot make heads or tails from it. I've looked at other drawings for this item that fit other vehicles and the drawings are spot on. The drawing for my model, (2005 Freightliner Sprinter) is really bad.
The steps are solid and work well. Only down fall is the black finish is coming off on both sets.
I have really like the larger step to be able to use getting in & out of the truck. It has a nice wide and good surface area to feel comfortable and secure placing my foot. The only negative is that it hangs low. If ground clearance is not a thing for you, than this is a great product.
I just needed a clean, simple step for my wife @5’3” to get into our 2010 K1500.

I ordered the side steps at approximately 8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 22 and they were delivered to my house at approximately 11:00 AM on Thursday morning, December 24. The box was carefully packed with steps, bolts, brackets and an instruction sheet. I am converting the steps to mount on a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon so I do have some additional design work to do. Extremely satisfied with the company, their pricing, and with their efficiency.
