Video Transcript for Review of Durabilt Chain Binders - Ratchet Chain Binder - DU26MR

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at Today we're gonna take a look at this Durabilt ratcheting chain binder for 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch size chain. It has the folding handle and an 18,100 pound working load limit. Now ratchet chain binders like this one increase the tension in the chain until it's taut using a twisting or ratcheting mechanism. And ratchet binders are often viewed as a safer option because they do not store as much energy in the handle, reducing the risk of recoil and harming the user. Now the ratchet binder will have a lever and a screw that works together, which means it takes less pulling on the handle to apply tension to the binder.

So this part is perfect for agricultural and industrial tie-down applications. Going to zoom in so you can talk about the ratcheting mechanism right here. This makes it very easy to tension the equipment. You can just see by ratcheting in it forward, you can tension it up. And then what's nice is if you notice this pull knob right here, this'll let you select from three different positions for quick take up or extension.

Right now, if you wanted to reverse the rotation of the ratchet, just turn it 180 degrees, and then that'll allow you to ratchet in the other direction. And the other position they offer is if you pull this knob up, turn it half the way, and that leaves it open so it puts it in a freewheel position and that'll allow the quick take-up or extension, also allows you to safely remove the ratchet binder when you're finished. Put it back in ratchet position. And the other feature on this I wanna show you, on the back of the handle right here, you'll notice there's this button. It's a pushbutton lock, and that allows the handle itself to fold out of the way when it's not in use.

So when you're done ratcheting, if you push that button, you can fold the handle down and lock it in the folded position. And also, if you notice on the end of the handle has a hole in it, and that's to allow you to put a padlock through that handle and through the chain to keep it locked in the folded position, keep anybody from operating it. And then when you're ready to operate it, just unlock your padlock. Now the padlock is not included, we do sell those separately. Just unlock it, push in on your pushbutton, rotate the handle out, and then you're ready to go.

Locks it in the ready to use position. Now in this binder itself, this one uses the alloy-forged 5/8 inch size grab book fittings on each end, and this'll let you quickly connect to your chains. The bearing portions right here, these will unscrew or screw in, whatever, they will extend out to provide extra reach when you're hooking this binder to your equipment. The screw diameter on these is one inch and the distance of these, like right now, I have it in the closed position, so the distance between these bearings is, when it's closed, it's about 26 1/2 inches. If we unscrew those bearings out, it'll get you about 34 1/2 inches open, so it has a take-up length of about eight inches. This is a nice steel construction, it's very durable. If you notice the handle on the barrel has a nice red paint finish to it, which makes it highly visible. You'll notice the eyes, the links, the hooks on both ends have a nice yellow zinc finish to resist corrosion. Now this part does meet or exceed the FMCSA 40, the CHP, CVSA, WSTDA, and the Department of Transportation standards. Application on this is for chains with a 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch thick links. Safe working load limit again, 18,100 pounds, proof load limit 36,200 pounds. Last thing we'll do is a few dimensions. That handle length from bottom here to the very top, we put our tape measure on it, we can see it's gonna be right at 14 inches. The barrel length, from here to here is the barrel, so if we measure that it's right at 10 inches and the weight of this one binder's about 17 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the Durabilt ratcheting chain binder for 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch size chains, with the folding handle..
