Use this 9-mm-throw, dual-action orbital to easily polish or buff your vehicle. Polishing pad (sold separately) spins on the axle as the backing plate moves in an elliptical orbit for even application. Switch between 6 speeds.

This random orbital lets you apply polishing solution or wax to your vehicle quickly and easily without damaging your paint job. It's safer and easier to use than a high-speed polisher, and it's more effective than a non-random orbital. With 6 speed settings and an ergonomic handheld design, this orbital works for many different applications. Whether you're a car care expert or a newcomer, this orbital will help you get the job done.
The Griot's Garage random orbital features dual-action rotation. While the buffing pad (sold separately) continuously spins on the spindle, the backing plate that the pad is attached to rotates in an elliptical pattern. These combined motions spread the solution in a smooth, even pattern across your vehicle's surface. The smooth distribution also keeps the solution from leaving ugly streaks after drying.
Unlike a rotary buffer, a dual-action orbital won't spin the pad in the exact same spot repeatedly. This minimizes friction, which in turn limits any heat buildup that could cause blistering to your paint. The dual-action rotation not only keeps your paint job intact, but it also prevents you from burning yourself on a hot vehicle surface.
The Griot's Garage random orbital has 6 settings so that you can increase or decrease the speed at which the pad and backing plate move. Setting 1 will give you the slowest speed, while Setting 6 will give you the fastest.
When waxing your vehicle, it's recommended that you use a lower setting, like 2 or 3. A slower speed will apply product more gently, giving you more control over the application. Keep in mind that, if the orbital speed is too slow, it can keep the product from spreading properly, which can leave messy streaks on your ride.
To correct defects with a correcting compound, or to buff out minor scuffs or swirls with a polish, a speed of 4 or 5 is usually recommended. When using a faster speed, be sure to hold the orbital extra-steady to ensure that the solution is spread evenly without splattering.
To use this orbital polisher, begin by attaching a buffing or polishing pad (sold separately) to the orbital's head. Be sure that the pad is securely attached and properly centered on the backing plate. Apply your compound in a spiral onto the pad. This spiral pattern will assist in evenly distributing the solution as you slowly move the orbital across your vehicle's surface.
When you're ready to get started, set the orbital head on your vehicle's surface and turn on the power. You want to be sure to set the orbital down before powering it on to avoid splattering the compound. Start spreading on the lowest speed, then gradually increase the speed to the recommended setting for your application. Keep the pad flat on the vehicle and apply even pressure for the best possible spread. It's recommended that you do 2 full passes with the orbital, but you can perform additional passes, if needed.
When you're done, check for any extra residue and use a clean towel to wipe it off.
Whether you're a longtime car care expert or just starting out, using the Griot's Garage random orbital is that simple.

Ellen: Hey, everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and we're going to be taking a quick look at the Griot's Garage Random Orbital Polisher. This is going to be the G9, so it's going to be the bigger version from some of the other ones that offered from Griot's here at etrailer.com, and really the nice thing about this is that it's going to help to improve the overall look of your vehicle since it has this dual action of moving in a random elliptical but then also spinning at the actual plate. It helps to reduce any heat buildup, shouldn't have as much friction since it's not just going over the same spot over and over, helps to spread out any kind of material that you're putting on there, whether that's a wax or a polish or anything else, and also helps to really buff it to a nice shine. So, should be a great tool to have in your garage, something definitely for car aficionados who want to have a really nice, shiny rig. It can also repair any light scratches to that paint if you get the buffer solution. There's all kinds of fun solutions from Griot's Garage.
Now this does not come with the actual buffing plate. You do need to purchase those separately. This is all that comes with the kit. So, you actually get the tool, the cord, and then a warranty card and a tool to replace this backing plate. You can size it down to a smaller one if you prefer.
This one is a six inch plate. You can size it down to a five inch, so it's just up to you there.I'm actually going to plug this in and turn it on just so we can get an idea of what it sounds like and how it moves. Again, I don't have a vehicle or anything to actually show it to you on, but just to get an idea of how it feels in the hand and also how it operates. So, I'll go ahead and attach my cord. It comes with this little hook and loop strap to keep it all nice and together, which is always a nice thing to see.
So, undo that, and then that plugs into the back of the orbital polisher at the end of the handle here.I'll just plug it right in, match it up with the shape, and I'll plug it into the wall. It's a pretty good length of cord as well. It looks like it's at least six feet, I'd say. So, now I have it just set to one, which is the lowest setting. Then it's going to operate by this trigger at the bottom.
You can see how that moves around. Again, that's just at the lowest setting, so we can dial it up to something a little higher, like a four. I just want to give you an idea of how fast this really goes and how easily this backing plate spins, so it really doesn't create any friction. It does feel pretty good in the hand. It's got this platypus handle up at the top, so you can really easily hold onto it. It's got a pretty good weight to it as well. You can also grip it right here. There's some little grooves for your hands, so you can hold onto it like this, so you can really get a good feel for it and hold it wherever you want to make sure that it's not going to put any stress or strain on your hands as you're using it. That trigger is also nice because you can just gently start it up.There's also a little safety on the other side or on the right side, so as you push down. I'm going to set this a bit lower. You can lock it so it'll stay going and then just release the trigger to bring it back. This is really going to save some time whenever you go to apply any kind of material to your RV or your vehicle. If you want to put on any kind of polish or defect correcting cream or any of the other great products from Griot's, should allow you to do that really quickly and easily. So, it looks like that cord length is actually 10 feet, and the backing plate, again, is six inches in diameter. The wire gauge for our cord is 18 AWG, weighs about seven pounds. The max orbital speed is 6,400 orbits per minute, and the spindle orbit radius is nine millimeters. As far as power output, it's rated at 1,000 Watts and 8.5 amps. It's got a limited lifetime guarantee and a two year comprehensive warranty.All-in-all, it should be a really great addition to your garage to make sure that all your fun toys are taken care of and stay shiny and looking nice for many years to come. If you want to check out any other accessories or any of those products and solutions from Griot's Garage, we've got you covered here at etrailer.com, so check them out. Thanks for watching.
