Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Tips for How to Identify a Trailer Axle
Depending on how the trailer was made, there will be a few spots you can check to identify the axle. First, if the trailer was pre-made by a specific company, you may be able to find this information in either the paperwork or on a placard somewhere on the frame. Sometimes, the axle identity is stamped into the axle itself or into the hub if it was purchased as a complete assembly. If you cannot find any markings or notation for the axle, you will need to look for replacement parts based...

  • Trailer Tires and Wheels to Replace 185/70R14 Tires on a Utility Trailer
Size 185/70-14 is not a common trailer tire size. Unless it has ST in front of the size it is a passenger vehicle tire and should not be used on a trailer. ST stands for special trailer. The smallest 14 inch trailer tire size is ST205/75-14. For a radial tire and wheel combo in this size with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern I recommend # AM32161. This set up is rated for 2200 pounds at 75 psi. I have included a link to a video review of this tire and wheel combo for you.

  • Can Karrier ST215/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire Be Used As Spare for Load Range D Tire
As long as you aren't going over the capacity you can use the Karrier ST215/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM32181 as a spare. The weight of your trailer will be divided between your tires. This has a max load of 1,870 lbs at 50 psi. For example, if you had a GVWR of 7,000 lbs between 4 tires that would be 1,750 lbs per tire which would mean this is ok to use. We only offer the wheel and tire separately for a load range D tire. If the capacity of the Karrier isn't enough, you could use the...

  • Availability Of Wheels With 5 On 4-3/4 Bolt Pattern
The 14 inch wheels we offer with a 5 bolt pattern all have a 5 on 4-1/2 pattern. I have attached a link to a helpful article that explains how to determine the bolt pattern of wheels you can check out. If you find that you have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, you can check out the attached product page for the 14 inch wheels we offer that may work for you, like part # AM20352

  • Does Rim Width Matter for a 14 Wheel with a 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern
Unless the tires that you have specifically state that you need to use a wheel with a certain width you will be just fine going with a 14" x 5-1/2" wheel like the Dexstar # AM20365 or a 14" x 6" wheel like the Americana # AM20364. Either of these is compatible with your Cargo Mate trailer as they also have the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. If you don't already have tires and you are looking for tire and wheel combinations then I highly recommend going with a Goodyear Endurance tire and Dexstar...

  • Are 14 Inch Wheels Available With 5 On 5 Bolt Pattern
The 14 inch wheels we carry have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern like part # AM20352. We also carry 14-inch tire/wheel combos with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern like part # TA65MR. I have attached links to the wheels and tire/wheel combos we do carry. I am not aware of any manufacturer that carries a 14-inch wheel with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. We do offer 15-inch wheels with that bolt pattern. I have attached a link to the 15-inch wheels we offer you can take a look at.

  • What is the Difference Between the Dexstar Mini Mod Wheels and the Steel Spoke Wheels
Both the Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel # AM20352 and the Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel # AM20365 that you referenced are made of the same material and have the same powdercoat finish so either would be just as great as the other when being submerged. If I were you I would pick the design that you think looks better since aside from that the wheels are identical. I attached review videos for both wheels for you to check out as well.

  • Recommended Wheel Rim Size For ST215/75D14 Spare Tire
It isn't likely you have a 7 inch wheel rim. It is likely a 6 inch or a 5-1/2 inch width but that isn't an issue because they have a zero offset so the same size tire will still run exactly the same. If you want the combination the Loadstar ST215/75D14 Bias Trailer Tire with 14" Galvanized Wheel # AM3S560 is close to the same price as the powder coated wheel # AM32181. If you just want the wheel without tire, you can compare # AM20364 and # AM20354 for galvanized or # AM20352.

  • Can 12 inch Tire of Trailer be Upgraded to 14 inch Wheel and Tire
If you had the clearance for a 14 inch wheel and tire yes you could upgrade your 12 inch setup to a 14 inch setup. The tire diameter would increase from 21.3 inches to 26.3 inches and the width would increase by 2.3 inches. For that we have the Kenda Karrier tire part # AM10235 which gives you a trailer tire size ST205/75R14 and then have them mounted on a white wheel with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern by Dexstar # AM20352. This tire has a speed rating of 81 mph. The wheel is made in the USA.

  • Replacement Tires and Wheels for a Utility Trailer with P185/70R14 Tires and 5 on 4-1/2 Wheels
I would recommend replacing the tires along with the wheels on your utility trailer. The tires that you currently have on your trailer are passenger car tires which can be identified by the P at the beginning of the tire size and it is not a common trailer tire size. Trailer tires will have an ST, or special trailer, designation on the tire size. Trailer tires are constructed with a stronger sidewall and can handle higher air pressures which are needed when carrying a load on a trailer....

There are a couple options for the most budget-friendly 14" diameter wheels: - Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel # AM20365 - Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel # AM20352 Both will also need Valve Stem # AM20904.

The hub center's outer diameter of the Dexter Hub and Drum # 84546UC3 measures 2.59 inches. A rim with a 3.19 pilot diameter, like # AM20352 will fit onto the Dexter hub because the wheel is lug-centric and not hub-centric.

  • Trailer Tire Recommendation for a Trailer with 185/70R14 Tires
The tire size you listed isn't a common trailer tire size, it's most likely a passenger vehicle tire. On a trailer you should only use ST specialty trailer rated tires since they are designed for the vertical load associated with trailer. The closest trailer tire size to what you have is the 205/75-14 like the part # AM1ST86. This size will be about 2 inches taller than what you currently have so you will need to make sure you have room for 1 inch less of fender clearance. I attached a...

  • How to Measure Width and Bolt Pattern on a Trailer Wheel
To measure the width of a trailer wheel you will measure from where the tire beads will seat on the wheel. That will be from the inside of the inner wheel flange to the inside of the outer wheel flange, not from edge to edge of the wheel. To measure the bolt pattern on a wheel with an even amount of lugs ( 4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug ) you will measure from the center of two bolt holes directly across from each other. If the wheel is a 5-lug wheel you will measure from the center of one hole...

Another option is white spoke wheel # AM20352 or white mini mod # AM20365. Or we have aluminum wheel # AM22330HWTB or # AM22329, both rated the same. • Taller Trailer Tire Size to Replace 175/80-13
If you wanted to stick with using your 13 wheel you could go with the slightly larger 185/80-13 size like # LHCK105 from Castle Rock. This will be .3 of an inch taller than what you have but will also fit same rim you have. If you are looking for a significant change in diameter though you'd need to replace the wheels and tires with the size 205/75-14 like # AM10235 for the tires and # AM20352 for the wheels, which would give you additional diameter of 2.2 inches.
