Perhaps the simplest type of heat exchanger, the tube-fin effectively cools a variety of automotive systems. The concept is simple: Fluid cools as it travels through the core by transferring heat out to the fins. The fins then provide the surface area necessary for sufficient heat exchange to take place, allowing the heat pulled from the fluid to dissipate into the surrounding air. Quick, easy and effective.

Take it a step further with a fan-mounted unit and you can be sure that there will always be optimum airflow for your tube-fin cooler no matter where it is mounted or what sort of environment you are traveling through, making it perfect for those hot days spent sitting in traffic.

Installed this in a 2017 Honda Ridgeline. Mounted it above the factory cooler that was already in the truck. (Flat fin side towards the a/c condenser). I used the insta-mount zip tie kit and also the flex metal mounts to anchor the cooler to the top of the factory cooler bracket as close to the a/c condenser as possible. The vertical bracket (part of the truck) that runs right down the middle of the a/c condenser has to be cut. All fairly minor fabrication. Hack saw and hand drill stuff. The fan has to be reversed to become a pusher. Followed the hood release cable from the interior to run 12 volts to power the fan on at ignition. Haven’t hooked the trailer up yet so I don’t know if this will resolve the hot tranny situation. ( I could smell the tranny getting hot before especially when we stopped at lights). Change your fluid too. etrailer delivered quickly and the cooler was well boxed and untouched.

We towed our travel trailer 7500 miles last fall almost coast to coast and back. The trailer weighs 4400 lbs loaded. The Ridgeline’s towing capacity is 5k lbs. I kept our speed at around 65 mph. The truck was capable even in mountain terrain. The transmission never overheated. I did change the fluid once during the trip and again when we got back. The cooler worked. Never once did I get that burning smell. I’m almost certain that the cooler saved us a huge overhaul repair. Thanks etrailer.

  • 1999 Chevy C3500 Transmission Will Not Shift Into Overdrive While Towing
Overdrive is not usually something that you would need to use when towing. Also if your truck has a tow/haul button that you press when towing then it likely shuts off overdrive. If this is something new the truck started doing then there are some things to look at. The first thing I recommend doing is checking the transmission fluid level for your 1999 Chevy C3500. If the fluid is low then it might not have enough cooling power. If the fluid is full and looks good then the cooler you...

  • Recommended Frame Rail Fluid Cooler for 200r4 Transmission on 1946 Chevy Truck
The Derale 24" Frame Rail Fluid Cooler with -6 AN Inlets # D13225 is a great option. It does not require lines to the front of your truck to cool your transmission. There is not a longer option available, but you can run the Derale 17" Frame Rail Fluid Cooler with - 6 AN Inlets # D13221 as well if increased cooling is desired and you need to be under 45 inches. • Transmission Cooler Recommendations for a 2008 Ford F-150
Adding fans like # D16105 will optimize the cooling efficiency of the factory cooler but you are not likely to see additional benefits if traveling at highway speeds. The benefits will come with the vehicle moving slowly are stopped. What I recommend is adding a supplemental remote cooler with its own fan, like # D12733 or a kit like # D15950. The benefit is that you can mount this type of cooler where you have space and you will receive the optimum amount of cooling.

  • Will the Derale Series 8000 Transmission Cooler Part # D13504 Replace the Factory Cooler
If you will be towing for extended periods of time then I do not recommend replacing your factory oil cooler. I would instead install the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets part # D13504 in conjunction with the factory transmission cooler as this will be much more beneficial for your transmission than swapping it out. If you will not be towing frequently with the vehicle then you should be okay to replace your factory cooler with this aftermarket cooler....

  • Remote Transmission Cooler and Mounting Accessories for a 2004 Chevy Suburban 5.3 Liter
Using the GM-specific snap-in radiator adapter fitting # D13035 will make installing a transmission cooler such as # D12733 easier because with it you would not have to cut and flare any lines for installation. The core on this cooler has 6 AN fittings. This cooler does not come with a thermostat but one can be added using # D13021. You will also need a mounting kit such as # D13002, hose clamps such as # D13008, and hose # D13017. The other option is a remote cooler that comes with these...

  • Transmission and Power Steering Cooler Recommendation for 2001 Acura MDX
When picking out a transmission and/or power steering cooler you want to basically go with the largest one that will fit in front of the radiator. A remote cooler with a fan is typically only needed on vehicles that don't have an area in front of the radiator that will allow a cooler to fit. For your 2001 Acura MDX this would work, but it may not be totally necessary. The # D13503 that we previously spoke about would be more than adequate as has proven to work well on even larger vehicles...

I spoke with my contact at Derale and he stated that you would be able to switch the airflow on the Derale Dyno-Cool Remote Cooler with Fan, # D12733. He stated that all you would need to do is to turn the fan around so the blades were facing the other way and then reverse the polarity of the motor and that is all there is to it. • Can Derale Dyno-Cool Remote Cooler Mount in Front of Radiator in 2010 Chevy Silverado
As stated by Derale in the instructions of the Derale Dyno-Cool Remote Cooler with Fan and AN Inlets # D12733, "The purpose of a remote mount cooler is to be able to mount the cooler away from the front of the vehicle therefore not blocking airflow to the radiator/condenser. This cooler can be mounted anywhere space permits." If you are going to be adding a transmission cooler in front of your radiator I instead recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13503,...
