When you’re not towing, you’d never know this base plate is there. The hidden design keeps the front end clean and factory-looking, while the removable arms pull out with a quick twist so nothing sticks out past the bumper. Snap-in receiver covers block dirt and debris, keeping the sockets protected and ready for the next trip.
Connecting your tow bar takes just a few seconds thanks to the twist-lock system. Each arm slides into the receiver, twists to lock, and secures with a pin—no tools or special steps needed. When you’re done towing, pull the pin, twist again, and remove the arms for a smooth front end.
This setup bolts directly to the chassis with no welding required. The sturdy steel construction and welded lugs spread towing force evenly to help prevent stress on your suspension. With brackets spaced 35" apart and a 19" bracket height, it’s engineered for stable towing mile after mile. Whether you already use Blue Ox gear or another brand, this base plate is easy to integrate into your system. It pairs directly with Blue Ox tow bars for a secure connection and can be adapted for use with Roadmaster (adapter RM-031 or RM-031-5 sold separately) or Demco (adapter DM9523041 sold separately) setups. Built-in mounting points make it simple to add an electrical connector plug bracket up front so everything stays organized.
No welding or fabrication needed here—this base plate bolts securely to the chassis using the included hardware. The straightforward install makes it approachable for hands-on owners who prefer doing their own setup. Once installed, you’ve got a heavy-duty foundation that’s ready for thousands of miles of confident flat towing.

2019 Ford Ranger baseplate worked and fitted fine for me. 73 yrs old took me a couple hours but took many breaks. Younger could do it less than hour I'm sure.

The bolts holes were off by 3/8 of an inch. I had to read out the bottom and back bolt holes beyond what is shown in the instructions. The instructions are very vague and doesn't show which side each plate goes on.
These base plates from etrailer are constructed with top of the line materials and fit in place correctly. I flat tow my truck behind my RV and never have a worry. Thanks to etrailer well knowledgeable staff I got the right parts the first time.

The tow bar plate kit didn't take into account the lip on the bottom of the driver side frame. I had to grind the lip of the frame down to allow the tow bar plate to sit flush against the frame. Other than that the install was relatively easy. Having removable arms is nice so that you don't have shin knockers sticking out from the front of your vehicle. I would buy them again if the need arose.

A year later - love the Blue Ox face plate and removable interfaces - I was able to install them using the pre-existing opening through the chrome bumper for the recovery hooks that I removed to install the faceplate same frame mounting holes. It looks smooth and rather unnoticeable when the interfaces are removed, and zero modifications were required for towing the Ram behind my diesel-pusher. Bonus points because they dont seem to need any lubricants - just , turn, lock and remove easily.
