Hello neighbors, I'm Steve with etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the replacement lock cylinder for your bolt toolbox latch. Now this will code to a center cut GM key. Now you will require the use to install this a retaining nut. That nut is sold separately, you can get that on our website etrailer.com, to secure this cylinder in place. Now what this fits is this lock core is gonna fit, again, your bolt toolbox latch.
That latch would look something like this, and you can see the key part there on the right-hand side of the screen there, but that's what this is gonna fit. So, again, that is sold separately as well, along with that retaining nut. So very simple design, very simple lock core, and if you're looking at this it's got a couple slots and stuff on the bottom, like this one's open. That's what's considered to be your drain, your drain hole. So you want this facing down whenever you're installing this.
So if you've never used bolt technology, what it does is you use your driver key, so your vehicle key that starts your ignition, and you can actually key these one time only and only to one vehicle, it's a permanent code so once you put that key in there and code it it's permanent. But what you do is you take your vehicle's key, you insert it inside of here, fully in the back, and then you rotate it to the right 180 degrees and you leave there for a few seconds, and then you go back left and right, like open and close, about three times. Then you leave the key engaged while you install this into the latch and while you put the retaining ring on, and once you've got it in place, again, that drain facing down on insulation, then and only then should you pull that key out. And then that's it, it's coded to your driver key, to your vehicle, and you're ready to go. Pretty nice design, pretty nice that you don't have to worry about extra keys and that kind of stuff so I really do like all the different bolt technology accessories and locks that we carry here at etrailer.com, so this is just another great one.

Works well with factory key, but doesn't work as a stand alone lock for a pickup box if it's not a handle style.
I got three of these for an A.R.E. pickup topper for which the previous owner had no keys. These coded to my ignition key and kept me from having to keep up with another key. In all it took about 20 minutes to put the three on. Love them.

Exactly what I needed. Previously bought one to verify it would work, then bought these two to finish the job.
I ordered this lock for adaptation to the Deck System pull out drawers. The lock unit itself is well built and easily keyed to my ignition key. The problem comes in that the locking mechanism which attaches to the rear, attaches with a snap ring, whereas most drawer locks I've seen, the locking mechanism attaches with a screw, for durable security. Also, I was sent a metal locking mechanism, which was of a thin metal, and could easily be pulled past the stop area. I hopefully can get some more durable steel and make my own mechanism, although I am concerned that it cannot be screwed onto the rear of the lock, and will still have to be attached with the snap ring. Let me say that the customer service and help I was given was better than excellent. Jason went above his responsibility in trying to help me adapt this unit. Finally, I would offer that future locks be adapted to attach the locking mechanism with a rear screw for more durability.

Customer service and communication from etrailer.com are Top notch! The lock cylinders fit and in my application had to be slightly modified due to the hardware used on an ARE DCU CV 2018 6.5 contractor cap. They coded with my ignition key and work!
