Today we'll be reviewing part number FA82-00-3220. This is the Fastway Trailer Hitch Ball Cover with Tether for two inch ball. It's going to assist in protecting the trailer hitch ball from the elements when you're not towing. It's also going to help keep the grease on the ball where it belongs. This does hang from the ball while you tow so you won't lose the cover. With the built in tether it just simply wraps around the ball during the installation so all you have to do to tow it is pop the cover off. This is constructed of durable weather resistant rubber and we'll going to show you how it installs and install is pretty quickly and easily.

All you got to do is just slip the tether over the ball, take the cover and place it over top of the ball. What this does is it really has good grip, has integrated fins and tabs on the inside of the cover to help grip the ball and keep it on there. It's going to fit your two inch trailer hitch ball and it's made in the USA. It’s been a year plus now. Hitch ball cover has been on and off a lot as we are camping 2 to 3 times a month. Cover still fits nicely and stays on, ptotects the lithium grease on the ball and has prevented countless stains on my jeans leg from bumping into the ball….

I've owned a larger version of this same cover for my camper hitch. Just bought this one for the smaller 2" boat hitch. The one on the camper has never lost its retaining ring.

The cover is nice because it keeps the grease off my clothing and the retainer ring prevents me from misplacing the cover when the boat is attached and keeps the cover handy so I can cover the ball immediately after disconnecting the trailer.

I bought this because I got tired of fighting to remove my old ball cover. Who doesn't know the kind I mean? The one where it is narrow above and below the widest diameter of the ball, with the bulging middle that sits on the horizontal line. They are a pain in the butt to take off! This thing slips on and off easily. The retention strap seems like a good idea, but that was cut off immediately. Again, I am sure others have caps or covers to items that had the retaining piece eventually break; for example,the cover for my flat 4 wire harness. I chose to avoid the future disappointment of finding it missing after hauling a load.

Looks ok, it's smaller than I realized though. Only time will tell how it stands up in years of sunlight. But for now, it was correctly represented in etrailer's listing.

This cap has been great to keep grease off of pant legs and keep the grease where it should be: on the ball. The rubber cap does stiffen up in winter but still does the job. My only complaint is that the rubber o-ring the attaches to the cap is very thin and can break easily. After learning this the hard way, I am more careful with using the spare that I bought. After a year, it is still going strong with monthly travel trailer use.

These guides save me a lot of trouble by getting the boat lined up properly on the trailer when I’m taking out. Some ramps are steep but the height of these guides works with them too. It was a good purchase!

Fastway ball covers fit well and the tether is a great idea, don't have to find something to wrap it in and a place to store it until your done towing. The ball mount bag is another great idea, but use the ball cover so you don't get grease inside the bag.

Great product. The only ball cover I know of that does not remove the grease on the ball.
Also, being rubber not PVC could weather does not affect its flexibility. I have the same comments for all three sizes.

The ball cap functions perfectly. Strap is still intact, very heavy duty. Grease is now under wrap. This was a good purchase.

Took it out the package, went to put it on my trailer ball and the o-ring that slips over the ball broke. I just put over the ball and called it good. Should be a warning that to ring could tear/break. And I thought I was careful enough with it. Not asking for refund, I will use it as is.

I cut the tether off and just use the cover. I've never had an issue with it even coming close to falling off. I'm using it on a greased 2" ball. Definitely recommend it.

These are flexible rubber. Not the PVC cheapo stuff. The PVC will not flex in cold weather and is form fitted to the ball. This flexibility is important for installing and removing the cover in cold weather.

Recommendation for 2" Rubber Hitch Ball Cover
Hi Tim, For a 2" hitch ball cover we have the Fastway Trailer Hitch Ball Cover w/Tether part # FA82-00-3220. It easily slips over the hitch ball and has integrated fins and tabs to help grip the ball. When the hitch ball is in use, it has a built-in tether so that it can hang from the ball, so the cover doesn't get lost. Should a Chrome Hitch Ball Be Greased
Yes, it is never going to hurt to grease the hitch ball and it would make for disconnecting the coupler easier so I do recommend this. For this, we have the White Grease Hitch Ball Lube part # 58117 which works really well. The hitch ball grease in addition to helping uncouple the trailer will also work to prevent rust. If you wanted to go one step further you could also use the Fastway Trailer Hitch Ball Cover with Tether - 2" Ball Item # FA82-00-3220. I recommend greasing the coupler...

Availability of Rubber Cover that fits Over Entire Hitch Ball
We have covers that will fit over the entire hitch ball, though at present we do not have covers that will fit over the mount. The mount will be powder coated or aluminum in some cases so they should resist rust without issue. If your hitch ball has a 2-5/16 inch diameter we have # FA82-00-3216. For a 1-7/8 inch and 2 inch diameter hitch ball there is # FA82-00-3220. These units slide nicely over the ball and covers the whole thing. The fit is good and it stays on until you take it...

2 Inch Stainless Steel Hitch Ball with 1-1/4 Inch Shank
I do have options for you but we do not have exactly what you are looking for. The best option we have is the 2" Hitch Ball part # SC23-C which is made of stainless steel and has a 1" diameter shank. In order to then use this with a 1-1/4" diameter ball hole you would also need the Hitch Ball Bushing part # F-2. Can Self-Locking, Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount, # DTALBM6800 withstand Indiana Winters
I would always recommend storing a ball mount of any type and in any geographic location because I personally hate bumping by shins or knees on them! I have also seen some get corroded and stuck in the hitch receiver so that is another reason to take it out when not in use. The outer parts of the Self-Locking, Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount, # DTALBM6800, will withstand those harsh Indiana winters, salt brine, debris, and all. Replacement 2 Inch Hitch Ball Recommendation
Good news! I was able to identify the chrome ball that you had purchased and have found a great replacement for you. The chrome ball # 63845 you currently have has a shank that measures 1 inch in diameter, a shank length of 2-1/8 inches, and a capacity of 7,500lbs. I recommend the stainless steel Brophy Hitch Ball # SC23-C to replace your chrome plated ball. This ball also has a 1 inch shank diameter, 2-1/8 inches long shank and a capacity of 7,500lbs., so they will swap out just great....
