Hello neighbors, Steve here with etrailer.com. Today, we're looking at our heavy duty crossbar adapter kit for the Rhino-Rack ski and snowboard carrier, kayak carriers, or fairings. So folks, this simply adapts the clamp on brackets that you already have on your Rhino-Rack ski and snowboard carriers, the Nautic kayak carrier, or the fairings to be able to use with the heavy duty crossbars. So it's gonna work with many different ski and snowboard models, the Rhino-Rack Nautic kayak carrier, and about four different Rhino-Rack fairings. So make sure you're checking the fit guide here at etrailer.com or the product page here to get all those item numbers as there are many, many. Now, these replace the screws, like I mentioned, that are included with the sport carrier or faring with these extra long ones.
These are two and 1/8 inch long. As you can see, they have a security style head there. All eight of these are the same. I just turned four of 'em around, so you can see that security head. You will require a tool that is sold separately.
It's S-E-C-K-E-Y dash S, and this is what is required to install these security screws. So if you don't already have that or you lost it, pick up one of them, it's sold separately, to ensure you can install these. etrailer had the solution to my problem. The yakima hd crossbars on my ladder rack did not work with the yakima kayak cradle. etrailer had the solution, rhino kayak cradle ( clamp on style) and the rhino adapter kit ( extra long clamp bolts ).
Note: I was not the first to experience this issue. The solution was in the FAQ section on etrailer.
In hindsight, I wish I had saved the money and just gone to the hardware and bought longer screws. These had the tamperproof head, and I had to go buy a special bit.
These longer corrosion free security bolts are just what I needed for my roof rack. The regular bolts that came with the rack were not long enough to properly secure the roof rack to the thicker cross bars of my SUV, and these fit perfectly. MNY THX!
