Hi, everyone. Steven here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at the Dexter hydraulic trailer brake assembly. It's a free-backing, 12-inch, left-hand or driver's side assembly, rated for 7,000-pound axles. Now, the hydraulic drum brake assembly here is designed for use with a surge-type trailer brake actuator. This, again, is the left-hand assembly.
If you need the right-hand or both the left and right-hand, I'll fill the item numbers up on the screen. Those are sold separately. Now, the hydraulic pressure is contained by the wheel cylinder up here at the top, and the free-backing design will let you reverse your trailer without the trailer brakes being activated. Now, the brake shoes will come in and out or pressure-release whenever you reverse them as needed. And then, these are going to give you long life and more braking torque.
They're automotive grade pads, and as you can see, they're not riveted, they're bonded shoes. And they're going to give you a lot longer life than those riveted ones, and should be a lot quieter. Now, this whole assembly does require some manual adjustments periodically, and what you'll do is you'll go through the hole in the back here, the access hole, they're going to give you a plug, or two, it looks like here, to cover that hole when not in use. And you're going to use your brake adjustment tool and twist the star lever down there at the bottom, in or out, depending on tighter or looser. You're also going to have stainless steel springs inside.
They are painted different colors. That's to aid in the installation process and kind of know which one goes where. This system is set up to have the parking brake that's already installed. You can see where it would attach on the back here, that is sold separately. It's a manual, frame-mounted brake lever and cables, and that's item number T2385200.
Again, sold separately. If you need that, pick it up here at etrailer.com. The internal parts and everything, to protect it from dirt, grime, and road debris, it's got a nice coating on it, as you can see. And everything's going to be nice and corrosion-resistant. They even include the brake mounting nuts here. The bolts, if you need them, are sold separately. Most of the time, on these five mount flanges, it's a welded stud on the brake mount flange, and so you just need those lock nuts there anyway. So, if you do need new bolts, you can purchase them separately here or locally if you need to. It's a 12-inch by 2-inch assembly, once again, rated at 7,000-pound or for up to 7,000-pound axles rather. Well, folks that we'll wrap it up for our look together today. I'm Steven. Thanks for watching.
