Universal Mighty Mounts Fit to an Older Fat Cat 4 for Installing on a Thule Aeroblade Bars

Question:

Im running Thule Aeroblade crossbars and Im trying to mount an older Yakima Fat Cat 4 to them. I bought the Universal Mighty Mounts, but the directions are lacking in attaching the Mighty Mounts to the Fat Cat. It seems there is hardware and adapters I need that arent included. Does etrailer have any advice on this install? Thanks.

I spoke to my contact at Yakima and he informed me that the Universal MightyMounts part # Y03590 should install on your older Yakima Fatcat 4. Basically you will need to remove the mounting hardware you have on the Fatcat and install the # Y03590 on place of it. If you check out the installation instructions I attached to the right and scroll down to the "Snow" section you will see how it installs.

I am confused....I too have a fat cat ski carrier and the instructions for my newly purchased might mounts do not show how to attach the fat cat to the adapter which attaches to the mighty mount?. The existing mounting hardware for the Fat cat connects via a self tapping screw that goes through the fat cat and into the mounting hardware. Once that is removed I see no way to attach the universal mighty mount to the fat cat? The diagram provided in the Universal Mighty Mount instructions does not reflect how the Fat Cat mounting hardware is attached so is not helpful?

@ScottW It looks like you are from the UK based on your emaill address which has different racks than here in the US so I would assume that is part of the issue. Also, this answer page is very old and most likely outdated.

@JamesonC I live in california....I have subsequently got my answer from Yakima direct....as an fyi my fat cat CANNOT be used with Yakima universal mighty mount....very frustrating as I purchased universal mounts and locks specifically for that and nowhere in my research did I find that out b4 purchase!

@ScottW Is yours an older version of the Fatcat or one of the more recent versions?
