Trailer Hitch and Towing Capacity for 1997 Toyota 4Runner Limited Edition

Question:
Hello, I own a 1997 toyota 4 runner limited edition which has a spare tire installed at the trailer hitch receiver normal position. I really like to purchase trailer hitch receiver from you store but not sure I can install the hitch receiver by myself since the spare tire block it. BTW, which trailer hitch receiver do U guys recommend for me to tow Camplite ultra lite travler trailer which weights around 5000 lb or less. Thx in advance.

All of the trailer hitches we offer for your 1997 Toyota 4Runner Limited Edition, such as the most popular Curt # C13087, are 2-inch Class III types that have a maximum towing capacity of 5000-lbs. This hitch is a bolt-on installation; no drilling is required. The written installation instructions are linked for you; they make no reference to needing to remove the spare tire.
I have linked you to two articles concerning hitch installation that may be helpful to you, as well as an article concerning the basics of towing.
You will want to check the owner's manual for your 4Runner to verify what its towing capacity is. It may be less than the hitch's capacity. My research indicates the 1997 4Runner's maximum towing capacity is only 3500-lbs. Unless your owner's manual indicates a higher capacity for your particular vehicle then you cannot tow a 5000-lb trailer with it.
