Can The Swagman XTC2 TILT Bike Rack S64671 Hold More Than 35 Pounds Per Bike?

Updated 07/21/2025 | Published 07/16/2025

Question:

Hey guys, thus rack says 35lbs/bike. I’ve hit two bikes, one is 21 lbs. but the other is an old MTB that weighs about 42 lbs! Is that a deal breaker? Didn’t know if the main thing was not exceeding 70lbs total, or if the hardware for each bike is only rated up to 35 lbs

Good question, Richard!

The Swagman XTC2 TILT Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # S64671 is rated to 35 pounds per bike as the hardware and cradles are only rated for that. So while you are still technically within range with the weight of both bikes combined, I can't recommend this rack for you, unfortunately.

With that said, I would check the following bike racks:

Swagman Chinook Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # S64683
Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # HR200Z

Both of these racks are extremely comparable in features, capacities (45 pounds per bike), and cost (which is more than the XTC2, sorry about that). The real difference is how they store/fold up. It's a little hard to explain, but if you check out the attached picture you will see what I mean.

Out of curiosity, what brand is the older mountain bike?

It's an approx. 35 yr old Diamondback Ascent. Bought it in '90 or '91 I think

@Richard Nice! I knew a couple people that rode Diamonbacks in the late 90s early 2000s. I always rode GT, myself. Looks like they might be going away though. Sad times. : (
