Are you talking about the factory brake controller? If so it sounds like you may have a short in the wiring on your 2008 Ford F-250. You can use a Multimeter like item # PT29ZR to check this at your 7-way by checking for continuity with the brake wire and any other wire on the 7-way. You can see the terminals in the image below.

If this is a factory controller, I recommend checking with your local dealer as well to see if there are any required re-flashes needed for it.

Have you checked your brake away kit? The plunger may have come out or it could've gone bad, dead battery, bad wiring, etc.

What kind of brake controller do you have?

@JeffC I thought so thanks for confirming. There's not much I can offer as far as additional troubleshooting steps go. If you go through all the steps and end up needing to replace it, we have the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller w/ Custom Harness item # TK96HR that plugs right into where the factory controller connects. This is one of our top proportional brake controllers and comes with a custom fit harness.
