Looking to Install the etrailer Hitch e98912 on My 2025 Subaru Crosstrek, Can I Use Smaller Hardware

Question:

Hello, I am looking at installing a hitch on my 2025 Subaru Crosstrek. I see from previous questions to your staff that the hitch receiver with part number e98912 is the recommended solution for this model. I am concerned about the need to grind down the holes to install the hitch. Is there a way around this? Is it possible to use slightly smaller hardware that fits through the mounting points without needing to grind down the frame? Thanks for your help, Best,

Hello Noah,

The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e98912 is going to be a great fit for your 2025 Subaru Crosstrek.

I cannot recommend using smaller hardware. Most of the time you just need to use a wire brush up the holes to get any welds out from the factory, but there is the chance that you might need to make the holes a little larger. There is not a work around for this. I know this is not the answer you were hoping for, and for that I apologize.

What do you plan on using the hitch for?

Hey Noah, how did things go with the hitch on your Crosstrek? Were you able to get the holes cleaned up enough with a wire brush, or did you end up needing to enlarge them a bit? Your update could make it easier for others working on the same install.
