Can Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator DM72VR Replace Atwood 61101?
Updated 03/17/2025 | Published 02/27/2025 >
Question:
Hello, I am trying to replace an Atwood 61101 Break actuator I see that they are no longer available nor are the parts. Is there a direct replacement? I had a conversation with a custom trailer shop they said I needed to bring it in. That in most cases they needed to cut off the old one and put on a new one. Mine is bolt on not welded. Will a Demco DM72VR work? Is that available? please advise

Hello Matt, thanks for reaching out. Atwood is no longer in business, so you are correct that no parts are available for the 61101 actuators. The Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM72VR can be used to replace it, but it is not necessarily a direct replacement. As long as your trailer has a 3" wide tongue, it can be made to work. If the current actuator is bolted on, it should be a simple matter or removing the old one and bolting on the new one. The bolts holes are 3" apart on center which is standard. Unless the old actuator is super rusted and stuck on there, I see no reason why it would need to be cut off. The Demco # DM72VR is available and ready to ship. You can add it to your cart right from this page and get one on its way.

Thanks for the reply I would also like to put a reverse lock out so when I back up the breaks don’t engage. What’s the part number for the lock out solenoid. This will add a 5th wire to my 4 wire trailer breaks. And my truck has a 7 wire connector. What electrical adaptors will I need ?
