Changing To Larger 5,200LB Axles Will 6,000LB Axle Springs Be Able To Be Used With Thicker Springs?

Question:

Hello. Another question for you. When I replace my equalizer and shackles, Im also wanting to replace my leaf springs. My current travel trailer has 4300 lb axles with 4-leaf, 26 springs. I plan to upgrade the axles to 5200 lbs. Can I uses these springs e88SR, rated at 6000lbs on the 5200 lb axle given the length and width are the same...or do the extra leaves cause fit issues? I plan to use with this suspension kit: K71-359-00 Thank you.

So first I want to verify how you measured the leaf springs. On the etrailer Rust-Resistant 6-Leaf Double Eye Spring for 6K Trailer Axles # e88SR the 26" measurement is from center of leaf spring hole to center of leaf spring hole when the spring is relaxed. If you got the measurement off a model number it could be a different length since some measure leaf spring length when the springs are flattened. It that is the case you would likely need to consider either the 25-1/8" # e47SR which is also rated for 6k axles or the 24-7/8" # e76SR which is rated for a 5,300lb axle. As far as any other fitment issues the only common change may be the ride height changing slightly from a spring having additional leaves. This of course all depends if you have an underslung or overslung axle.

All of these will work with the Dexter Heavy-Duty Suspension Kit # K71-359-00 you plan to use.
