The first thing you will want to do is try resetting the detector. This can be done by holding the test button. If the Red alarm light is still on after a reset, and there are no gas leaks, it is going to be time to replace the detector. They generally last around 7 years so it is not uncommon for them to go bad. Our best option for replacing the ProTECHtor LP Gas Detector is the RV Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector part # RS54FR. This will be a nice upgrade as it can detect Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas.

Good troubleshooting advice on the reset procedure. If you're looking for an even more comprehensive solution, consider the Forensics Detectors 4-gas monitor. It simultaneously detects oxygen levels, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and combustible gases (including propane/LP) with factory calibration and rapid response time under 30 seconds. The rugged construction handles RV environments well, and the multiple alarm types (audio, visual, vibration) ensure you'll notice any issues. While it's more of an industrial-grade unit, it provides complete atmospheric monitoring beyond just propane and CO detection.
