Question:
Does the monitor need to be plugged in or does it have an internal battery? If it does have an internal battery, how long will it power the monitor before needed to be recharged?

The monitor for the TireMinder i10 TPMS # TM29FR does need to be plugged in. It comes with a power cord that you can either plug into to a USB outlet or you can use the included adapter to plug into a 12v cigarette outlet.
