Trailer Hitch Ground Clearance On 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagwen
Updated 12/23/2013 | Published 12/21/2013 >
Question:
I need to get a trailer hitch for my 2014 Sportwagen. Talking with owners I hear that dragging is a problem. Looking at the hitch design, it seems that the receiver could be shifted upward on the crossbar to allow another couple of inches of ground clearance at the point of contact with the ground. Design-wise this would put the line of action of the pull forces closer to the attachment points on the chassis and allow better hitch performance. At the least it would allow less rise on the drawbar and less moment to be resolved in the crossbar. Does Curt offer a higher ground clearance version of this hitch, or is there a competitor that does?

The hitches that we carry for your 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen, have very similar clearance distances. I have attached a photo of a hitch and the clearance distance marked. The 10-1/2 inches is from the top of the receiver opening, so the bottom of the receiver will be approximately 8-1/2 inches from the ground.
I am not aware of any hitches with a different design that have more ground clearance.
