Is There Draw Back to Not Putting Carpet On Boat Trailer Bunks

Question:

I have a Mcclain trailer and replace the bunks with pressure treated pine. I have an aluminum boat. I am thinking of leaving the bunks without putting carpet. I am concerned that the carpet will trap salt from the water. Is there a reason I should not use bare wood?

Boats don't slide as well on bare wood bunks compared to carpeted bunks and typically if theres paint on the bottom of the boat it would be more likely to get damaged. Since you have an aluminum boat you don't have to worry about paint coming off but you will have to launch deeper most likely to compensate for the increased friction.

Carpet also helps the wood to last longer since it protects it from the sun. If you decide to put carpet on the bunks we have the part # CE11373 which is an 18 foot by 18 inch section.
