How To Remove Thule Rapid Tracker 430R Foot From a Cross Bar

Updated 10/02/2024 | Published 09/19/2022

Question:

I bought a longer Aero crossbar. How do I get the Thule Rapid Tracker Feet 753-2157-02 off the cross bar to put them on the new cross bar? I cant seem to find a manual for that.

To remove or install the Railing Foot # 753-2157-02 from the cross bar you need to push in the gray latch and slide down the black cover identified by the red arrow in the picture attached. This will allow you access to the allen head bolt to loosen it from the cross bar. You will then be able to slide it off your current crossbar and onto your new cross bar.

I have these same feet, and removing that allen head screw does not allow the feet to slide off of the crossbars. Any other suggestions? My feet look just like this but they do not move.

@Joyce The only thing I could think if loosening the allen head screw will not allow you to remove the crossbar is there may be corrosion which has frozen the components together.

@Joyce First this may be fixed by loosening the screw all the way and rocking it free. But I had a similar problem because my bars didn't have end caps before I received them and at the ends rust had formed between the metal and the plastic bulging it slightly. That made it impossible to remove the feet and mount some of my accessories. So I picked up a good inexpensive set of bars on craigslist but couldn't get my 430 feet off the old bars. The fix was taking my jigsaw with a metal blade and cutting through the bar right near the feet where it wasn't rusted and could easily slide off. I thought it would be hard but it cut through the bar like butter. The bars were no good so I didn't care about cutting them and then they fit in the trash.

@Lee I'm hung up on the same spot. :( I have the button pushed in, the cover is slid down, and I now have the screw all the way out! They are still frozen on. I cut the bar right at the end hoping they'd slide forward. I'm having a hard time seeing what is hold it on? Is there a piece of metal the raises up and pushes against the bar?

I have a Tracker 430 and couldn't figure out how to get the feet off the load bars. I read the Thule PDF but all it discussed was attaching the bottom to the TKx feet. A google search got me to Bud M who knows. It is easy if you know, impossible if you don't.
