Recommended Weight Distribution System For A 2014 Toyota 4Runner
Question:
Im looking at purchasing a 18ft travel trailer and Ive just recently started doing research on everything I can find about towing. I have 2014 Toyota 4Runner with a towing capacity of 5,000lbs and a maximum tongue weight capacity of 500lbs. The travel trailer Im interested in has a dry weight of 2,884lbs, a gross weight of 3,900lbs shows a tongue weight of 400lbs. Ive recently learned that that is likely the dry tongue weight. I dont plan on having much weight if any behind the rear axle of my 4Runner but I imagine Ill exceed the maximum tongue weight of my vehicle if the trailer is fully loaded. Would a WD hitch help me at all or should I be thinking of looking into a vehicle with higher towing capacity? Ive seen people in forums pull similar trailers with similar weights with a 4Runner but I havent read much about the tongue weight theyre experiencing. I wanted to get an expert opinion before I started making any expensive purchases. Thank you in advance.

When it comes to choosing the proper weight distribution system for your 2014 Toyota 4Runner The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Round - 6,000 pounds GTW, 600 pounds TW # FA94-00-0600.
When it comes to using a weight distribution system you need to be as close as possible to the weight you will be towing. If you go with anything way over the recommended weight it will cause more sway and could be dangerous. Make sure not to overload your vehicle adding a weight distribution will not make it ok to go over the manufacturers capacity.
The Fastway system has a maximum gross towing weight up to 6,000 pounds and has a gross tongue weight between 400 to 600 pounds. It has a no-drill, clamp-on bracket system that can be adjusted along the trailer frame to accommodate frame-mounted items such as gas tanks, battery boxes, toolboxes, or generators.
Everything is included with this system except The Hitch Ball # EQ91-00-6100.
