Video Transcript for Equal-i-zer Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - EQ91-00-6100 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the two and 5/16ths inch Hitch Ball for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems. It's made from a sturdy steel construction. It's going to feature a durable rust resistant double chrome platting and the hitch ball's going to come with your lock washer and it's going to come with a nut, so all that's included. It's also going to come with a little set of instructions that let you know some installation instructions as well as making sure that you get it properly torqued down when you're ready to install it. Now, the ball diameter on the unit is two and 5/16ths of an inch. We're going to take a measurement of the shank real quick. This is going to give us an overall length of two and 3/8ths of an inch and it's going to give us a shank diameter of an inch and 1/4, and this has a weight capacity of 10 thousand pounds. When you install it, this goes through the hitch ball hole opening on the weight distribution head.

On the underside of the head, you place on the lock washer followed by the nut. Then again, according to the instructions that come with it, you want to get it torqued down properly. That's going to do it for today's look at the two and 5/16ths inch Hitch Ball for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems.

The hitch is great! I installed the FA92-00-0600 on my 2014 Acura MDX to pull my 2019 Geo Pro 19BH camper. It is night and day between the old and new hitch. Way less bounce and herky jerky when starting and stopping. Really pleased with the hitch. Installation was straight forward though it took a bit of time to dial in just right. You also need some big wrenches for sure. I also bought the ALL643216 socket to attach the EQ91-00-6100 hitch ball. The packaging left something to be desired. Part of the box was falling apart and things fell out of the box when I moved it off my doorstep. The hitch is almost 100 lbs so I'm not totally surprised, but this could be improved for sure. 656180

This hitch is very simple to set up and take down while travelling. Drove home with our new 27 foot TT in high wind through the Columbia River Gorge with no problem. My shipment of 3 boxes was delayed because of Midwest storms and I was concerned of the arrival. etrailer customer service was exceptional by their concern and devotion to keeping me updated of the arrivals of all 3 packages. Great item and company transaction. 589502

I've put a little over 4000 miles on the hitch and hitch ball that eTrailer recommended. It tows like a dream and is easy to use. Far better than the ride before weight distribution and it was eTrailer that finally got me into the right solution after several other companies talked me into buying the wrong thing. They've earned my trust. 321946

Ask the Experts about this Equal-i-zer Trailer Hitch Ball

  • Weight Distribution Hitch for Light R-Pod Travel Trailer
Very good question, and we do have a solution for a weight distribution hitch for a very light R-Pod travel trailer. For a 2,800 lb dry weight R-Pod with a GVWR in the 3,5000 lb - 4,000 lb range the best option for a weight distribution hitch is the Fastway e2 because it is the best value. It combines quality with ease of use, superb sway control, and a price tag much less expensive relative to other systems. The Fastway that is perfect for your very light R-Pod is the Fastway e2 Weight...

Between round bar systems like # FA94-00-0600 and trunnion systems like # FA92-00-0600, I recommend going with a trunnion system because it will provide you better ground clearance than the round bar system. The trunnion bars come straight out from the hitch head, while the round bars come down from the head before moving out. For the Fastway and Equalizer systems, the manufacturer has already factored the hitch weight into the calculation. With these systems, you will only need to...

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for R-Pod Trailer with 500 lbs of Tongue Weight
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use. The Fastway e2 part # FA94-00-0600...

  • Difference Between Fastway E2 and Equalizer Weight Distribution System
The benefits of an Equal-I-zer hitch over the e2 is primarily the improved 4-point sway control of the Equal-I-zer. The 4-point sway control utilizes steel on steel friction at the arms as well as in the hitch head to stop sway. The e2's 2-point sway control uses the same steel on steel friction at the arms to fight sway. Another difference in these systems is that the Equal-I-zer system includes a hitch ball, but the e2 does not. For the e2 system, you will want a hitch ball with a...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution For Trailer With 600-Lb Tongue Weight
The best way to determine what system will work for you is to know what your total tongue weight is. The total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully-loaded-ready-to-tow trailer added to the weight of any cargo you place behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. You will then want to find a system where your total tongue weight falls near the middle of the tongue weight range for the system. Getting a system that is too small will be useless, but getting a system that is too big...

It looks like the 2017 Palomini 177BH has a gross weight rating of 3,921 if loaded to its maximum capacity. At that weight the tongue weight would be 421 pounds which is just under 11 percent of the gross trailer weight. Of course if you are not loaded to the max capacity then the tongue weight would be less. Either way that 421 pounds is still under the tongue weight capacity of your 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk which you indicated is 450 pounds. But for weight distribution you also...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution/Sway Control System for 19 Foot 3000 lb Lightweight Travel Trailer
Because a travel trailer has a lot of surface area for crosswinds and traffic caused turbulence to act against, I'd highly recommend using a weight distribution system that provides an incorporated sway control component. To choose the proper system, you'll need to know the tongue weight of the travel trailer when it's fully loaded and ready to go. Anything packed in the truck bed behind the rear axle ALSO needs to be considered as tongue weight. Assuming that the 350 lb figure you mentioned...

Thanks for providing as much information on your setup as you did. That makes my job very easy! So your trailer at it's heaviest would be 3,500 lbs which would mean the tongue weight could range from 350 to 525 lbs. The part # FA92-00-0450 is most likely going to be not rated high enough as you also have to factor the weight of cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle as tongue weight too. The part # FA92-00-0600 would be a better option as it has a tongue weight limit of 600 lbs...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution For Trailer With Total Tongue Weight Between 350 and 600 lbs
A weight distribution system that is rated too high for your total tongue weight of your loaded trailer and cargo behind the rear axle, can be an issue. You won't cause damage to your truck or trailer, but it can cause a rigid ride and in the worst cases can even cause the trailer to bounce which obviously means the traction isn't where it needs to be for proper control.
