Recommended Replacement For An Inteli-Power PD9280 Converter Charger

Question:

I currently have a Inteli-power Model: PD9280 which I believe that is failing. The battery voltage is 15.4 which is too high. The batteries look like they have gotten too hot and boiled over. The model you have listed is PD9280A. Is this just a newer model and will this be a good replacement? Thanks for your help.

Yes, the Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter and Smart Battery Charger # PD9280A would be an exact replacement for your PD9280 converter.

If you weren't just going to replace it and were going to troubleshoot the issue I recommend checking the output of the converter. It could be that the internal Charge Wizard is bad and not correctly reading the charge of your battery and thus sending more power than necessary to charge your battery. To test the output of the converter you'll need to use a multimeter like # PT89ZR and can test the pos and neg leads running to your battery. Try it with the battery you were having issues with as well as a secondary battery to see if it is the problem or if your trailer's house battery is the issue.

@Jim Yes, the Progressive Dynamics # PD9280A (PD9280AV) is just the newest version of the same converter. The letters at the end are more for categorization of the product by the manufacturer or distributor. The 'V' just means that it's available for individual retail sale,

@TomC Yes, the # PD9280A is the same as the PD9180 but has the Charge Wizard built into it instead of needing to purchase it separately like you would with the PD9180.

@EricH No, the Progressive Dynamics PD9280A (PD82980AV) is only designed for lead acid, AGM, and gel batteries. You would need the Progressive Dynamics 9300 Series RV Converter Charger # PD89RR in order to charge a lithium battery. The # PD89RR is compatible with lead acid, AGM, and lithium batteries.
