Can Two Of The Curt 2-Wire to 3-Wire Converter C56196 Be Used To Convert RV To 3-Wire System

Question:

I want to convert a 2 wire taillight on a RV to a 3 wire taillight. Can I buy 2 of the 56196 controllers and use them separate instead of running and fishing all the wires through the body of the RV. All the wires for the individual lights are in a hole behind each tail lights. Would I need a resistor for the blinker and will the unit sense signals correctly using it only on one side? Thanks,

Yes you can use two of the Curt 2 to 3 Wire Tail Light Converter # C56196, one on each side of your RV to convert its 2-wire system to work with 3-wire lights. Doing it this way will prevent you from having to run the wiring from one side to the other on your RV.

You will not need to use any resistors, and the turn signals will work just fine.

could you install this on the rv at the 7 pole plug? Input side would be just the two way combined from rv but split it into r/l turn signals and brakes at the plug?

@WyattR yes, you can install it at the 7-way at the rear of your RV.

It seems like the answer has already been discussed, but let me ask more specifically. I have a toy hauler/travel trailer that is connected to a tow vehicle with a 7-pin. The trailer tail lights, are the standard LED 6" oval with stop/turn and running. So if you're braking, and then turn signal is activated one side will blink. Or if hazards are activated both blink. I'd like to remove the trailer lights, and add a 3-way LED strip light (actually 4-way, but I know how to add the reverse wire). If I connect ONE of the 2 Way to 3 Way Converters at the back of the trailer near the stop/running lights... It should give me my turn signal output for the new 3-way LED lights (stop, turn, running)... on both right and left sides, correct? I know the 7-pin has the stop, l turn, r turn, etc but they aren't sent all the way back to the trailer's tail lights. Thanks JohnJ
