Question:
Hello, we are considering a roof top storage solution for our 2019 Arctic Fox 990 Truck Camper. Would this box be the right idea? Does it necessarily need a rack or bars to mount it on or can it sit directly on the rubber roof? There are the surround bars up there it can be strapped to. If it needs a rack or rails of some sort, suggestions? And would that mount by screwing it directly through the rubber roof? Thanks for any info.

I looked up a photo of the 2019 Arctic Fox 990 Truck Camper and I see the surround bars you are talking about. You will want to check with the manufacturer to determine the weight capacity of the roof. If the weight capacity can handle a cargo box such as Yakima SkyBox 18 # Y07336 then you could possibly mount it on the roof and secure it the rails. However, roof cargo boxes are designed to be mounted onto a roof rack with crossbars so I recommend doing it that way.
For a roof rack that will fit your camper, I would look into Rhino-Rack Aero Bar Roof Rack for Camper Shells - Track Mount - 59" Long # Y02-490B or the Swagman Roamer LT Roof Rack for Pop-Up Campers and Camper Shells - Steel - 7' Long - 150 lbs # S80510. The Rhino-Rack crossbars measure 59" long and are mounted onto 63" long tracks, while the Swagman has crossbars that measure 84-5/16" long. Both systems will be screwed into the roof of your camper. You could then install a cargo box such as the Yakima SkyBox 18 # Y07336. I attached a couple demonstration videos that you can check out.
