Although both controllers are excellent quality proportional brake controllers, there are a couple of differences.
• The Prodigy P2 # 90885 is compatible with electric over hydraulic trailer braking system, while the BRAKE-EVN is only compatible with electric brakes.
• The P2 can be mounted at any angle as long as it's level on a side to side axis and aligned squarely with the point of travel, while the BRAKE-EVN has a functional mounting range of -20° and 70 degrees in the vertical plane. In other words, you can mount the P2 at any angle you wish as long as it's level side to side and pointed squarely in the direction of travel.
• The manual brake switch on the P2 is more robust and easier to locate if you're not looking at it than the one used on the I-Command.
• The Prodigy P2 has an auto-dimming display, while the BRAKE-EVN does not.
Either controller would work well for trailers with an electric brake system. If you'll be using the controller frequently, I'd recommend going with the Prodigy P2, because of the more substantial and easier to actuate manual brake switch.
Either controller would install using the blunt-cut tow package wiring located under the dash to the left of the steering column. Look for a wiring harness with a white tag on it. The controller would install as follows:
- Black brake controller wire connects to Red/Black striped tow package wire.
- White brake controller wire connects to the White tow package wire.
- Red brake controller wire connects to the light blue/white striped tow package wire.
- Blue brake controller wire connects to dark blue tow package wire.
- The orange tow package wire isn't needed. Just bundle it up and tuck it out of the way.
You'll also need the # 20127 wiring pigtail if you go with the I-Command controller
I've linked to an installation video showing the Prodigy P2 being installed on a 2007 Chevy Silverado New Body.
