How Much Can a 2004 Chevy Suburban 1500 LS Tow
Question:
I just bought a 30 ft Keystone Cougar Half-Ton with a 7040 unloaded weight. The dealer said my 2004 5.3 L v8 Suburban 1500 LS with towing pkg and weight distribution hitch could tow the trailer easily. I have seen some on the internet that disagree. Who can I believe?

The towing capacity of a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 LS can be as high as 8,400 lbs but the exact towing capacity will vary by options so be sure to take a look in the owner's manual. If the loaded weight of the trailer does not exceed the towing capacity of the vehicle then you will be safe to tow.
That said, it sounds like you could be towing toward the upper limit of the vehicle's capacity so in which case you'll want to use some suspension enhancements alongside the weight distribution system. For this, the RoadActive Suspension (RAS) Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit part # RAS4611 will be the best option so I highly recommend you consider. It is imperative to have the vehicle as level as possible and the RAS Kit will work wonders for this.
