Recommendation Between the Thule Camber 4 and Yakima Ridgeback 4 Bike Carriers
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
We have a 2015 Honda Odyssey with the etrailer hitch. Looking for a bike rack and curious to hear your thoughts on the differences between the Thule Camber and Yakima Ridgeback. Which is better? At this time we need to carry a large men’s hybrid bike 20” frame, an extra small women’s step through bike 14” frame, and a kids bike 20” wheels. Thanks!

The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e98862 you referenced will have the hitch pin hole recessed 4-1/2 inches from the outer bumper. This will allow for compatibility with both the Thule Camber or the Yakima Ridgeback you referenced.
The biggest difference between the two bike carriers for your application is the arm spread distances. The Thule Camber # TH9056 has outside cradle to outside cradle measurement of 13 inches. The Yakima Ridgeback # Y02458 is 1/2 inch wider at 13-1/2 inches from outside cradle to outside cradle. If your bikes fit both when you measure the frame then my recommendation is the Ridgeback # Y02458 because it comes with the hitch lock anti-rattle that doesn't require additional tools and allows you to add the Yakima HandCuff Cable Lock for RidgeBack and SwingDaddy Bike Racks # Y02466 for a clean integrated option versus a separate universal cable lock.
For step-thru frames on either option, I recommend the Bike Adapter bar # 64005 which creates a top frame rail between the seat post and handlebars for level transport. I've attached some videos to assist.
