Installing Hopkins HM48480 7-Way Trailer Connector on 2003 Chevy Suburban
Published 01/02/2020 >
Question:
So I purchased a Hopkins 48480 7 blade vehicle replacement connector and I can not figure out the wiring based on posts on the internet. Even from etrailer. My factory wiring harness is color coded as follows: Light Green Wire: Back up lights Dark Green Wire: Right Turn and Stop light Yellow Wire: Left Turn and Stop light Brown Wire: Tail Lights Red Wire: 12v constant Blue Wire: Trailer Brakes Black: ? this may be the ground as there is no white wire. What goes on the center connector and what goes on the aux connector?

You have a good handle on the color codes.
If you're looking at the back of the 7-way connector, where the wires attach to the terminals, things would attach as follows. I'll refer to the terminal locations as if they were the hours shown on a clock face.
1:00 Running Lamps- Attach Brown Wire
3:00 Left Turn and Brake- Attach Yellow Wire
5:00 Ground- Attach Black Wire
7:00 Brake Output Voltage- Attach Blue Wire
9:00 Right Turn and Brake- Attach Dark Green Wire
11:00 12-volt constant- Attach Red or Orange Wire
Center Pin- Reverse Lamps- Attach Light Green Wire
Since many trailers do not have reverse lamps, the center pin is also sometimes referred to as the auxiliary terminal. If your trailer doesn't have reverse lamps, that pin can be used for whatever function you wish.
