Is Larger 5.70-8 Trailer Tire a Better Option to Replace 4.80-8
Question:
Hello. I recently bought a small trailer to pull with my motorcycle. It currently has 4.80 x 8 tires. Logic tells me the 5.70 x 8 size will allow slower tire speed and less reaction to road irregularities. My question is about rolling resistance. Would there be any advantage to the smaller tire due to smaller contact area, or any other reason, or does the larger size win in every category? Thank you,

A larger trailer tire basically wins in every category like you mentioned. Less rolling resistance, less affected by bumps in road for smoother ride quality, and bearings/hub spins less so in theory less wear and tear. So as long as you have room for a larger size it's a great idea.
The difference between the two size of 4.80 and 5.70 is two inches of overall diameter. This translates into one less inch of fender clearance since the diameter of a tire is split on either side of the spindle. So if you have room for one less inch of fender clearance a 5.70-8 like the part # AM10013 would be a really great option. You typically want at a very minimum 3 inches between the top of the tire and the fender.
I attached a review video for this tire for you to check out as well.
