Question:
How to remove without risking the bolts being trapped-36524 On a Ford Escape 2017, how can I remove the hitch without risking that the bolts fall into the frame? Or - if they do - any possibility of getting them out?

Expert Reply:
On your 2017 Ford Escape you can best remove the hardware from your frame by basically reverse installing the hitch. This would include using the fish wire to keep track of your bolts to ensure they don't remain in the frame.
If you were to lose a bolt in the frame you would basically use the same access hole used for installation to attempt to pull the loose hardware out the frame using whatever materials you have access to for assistance.
I've attached a video as well as the installation details to assist. Note: Once the hardware has been used, it should not be used again to reinstall hitch so it may be worth simply putting the hardware back in place after removing the hitch. You would need new hardware because it has been torqued to spec and won't be as strong after use. Replacement hardware kit is # RHK.
