Compatibility of Any Size Tires/Wheels for 2008 Honda CR-V with 225/65-17 Tires
Updated 06/12/2020 | Published 01/12/2019 >
Question:
I have a 2008 Honda CRV and need new tires. Ive always replaced them with the recommended 225/65/17, two at a time putting the old front tires on the back and new tires on the front. My boyfriend wants to buy me 265/65/17, 205/65/16, or 225/50/17 for my car. He says as long as I have all 4 the same size it will work just the same....thank you for any help you can give.

Your 2008 Honda CR-V came with only the 225/65-17 tire option from the manufacturer. These tires are 28.5 inch diameter with 8.9 inch width and 5.8 inch sidewall.
The 265/65-17 tires will have a 30.6 inch diameter with a 10.4 inch width and 6.8 inch sidewall.
The 205/65-16 tires will require different rims and will have a 26.5 inch diameter with 8.1 inch width and 5.2 inch sidewall.
The 225/50-17 tires will have a 25.9 inch diameter with a 8.9 inch width and 4.4 inch sidewall.
You can use the 225/50-17 tires if you want a lower profile or you can change the rim and use the 205/65-16 tires if you prefer. These will both minimize clearances and the 16 inch wheels/tires will have slightly less traction, so I don't recommend going that route.
The larger 265/65-17 will be too large to give you the wheel clearances you need, so that would not work.
If you change sizes, you do need to change all 4 tires, but changing tire size can also impact the speedometer and can even impact the transmission, so I recommend checking with your Honda dealer before making the change.
