Do the Shackle Straps Go Inside or Outside the Leaf Spring Hanger
Question:
When mounting the rear leaf spring shackles on a single axle boat trailer, should the shackles be outside the fixed hanger or inside. I have them inside the hanger currently and they are closer together between the hangers. If I mount them on the outside the will be farther apart. I have 25 1/4 double eye springs and shackles. There is 2 inches between the hangers.

The shackle straps need to be placed on the outside of the rear leaf spring hangers which you can see in the attached photo. Furthermore, the distance between the two mounting plates (inside to inside) on your leaf spring hangers should be 1-7/8", not 2" which is most likely why there is too much of a gap between the shackle straps and leaf spring. Therefore, the leaf spring hangers will need to be replaced.
For this, we generally kit the single axle trailer suspension hangers and shackle straps together like the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs part # APS4 or part # APS2 to make things easier so this is what I recommend using.
