Can Fuse Tap be Used to Acquire Brake Signal for Brake Controller Install of 2017 Toyota Highlander
Published 12/03/2018 >
Question:
I am hoping to utilize this fuse tap for my 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD non hybrid. I need a stop light signal for my brake controller probably going to order a Redarc Tow Pro Elite from you all. As you know many modern vehicles can initiate braking activity automatically thanks to collision sensors and adaptive cruise control i.e. Toyota Sense. Therefore, Brake Controller Manufacturers like Redarc recommend capturing the signal from somewhere other than the Brake Pedal Switch such as the trailer wiring harness stop wire with the addition of a diode. My question is instead of tapping into my trailer wiring from the back of the vehicle and running a wire to the front, could I simply tap into my STOP fuse using part # F2526. I assume this fuse gets signal for the duration of any braking activity manual or automated but I cant exactly test the automated braking systems with a probe in the fuse :

Yes, you can use a fuse tap like the part # F2526 to tap into the stoplight circuit of the vehicle for a dedicated brake signal for installing a brake controller. Any time the brake lights are turned on this circuit would have voltage on it.
