2012 silverado 1500 without tow package what other wiring is needed after installing p2 controllerin cab. does wires have to be run to the plug at rear of truck or another harness has to be installed, nothing is mentioned about this or how to install it.

Even on your 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500 that isn't equipped with the tow package the needed wiring is already run and present under the dash. Installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885 that you referenced is just a matter of connecting the controller wiring to this wiring under the dash of your truck. Once the brake controller is in place you may still need to make some connections in the fuse box under the hood to get power to the unit.
I have attached a helpful article along with an installation video that shows this process.
If you already have a 7-Way connector installed at the rear of the Silverado then your job is done. If not, you just need the Pollak 7-Pole # PK11898 to wire into the factory bundle of wires above the spare tire. If you happen to have a round plug with a cap instead of a bundle of wires you will just use # 30955 instead.
